Overview
Manager, Grounds & Landscape Services at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). The role reports to the Director of Facilities Management and encompasses planning and managing the University's grounds maintenance and landscape program, including waste hauling, recycling, and interior pest management. Key Responsibilities
Provide general and specific direction and leadership to the University in grounds and landscape services, irrigation, athletic fields, waste hauling, recycling, and pest management. Develop policies and procedures related to grounds personnel and operational functions. Develop lists of tasks and frequencies by position. Plan and coordinate the work of grounds personnel using effective leadership/management strategies to ensure maximum productivity and creativity. Manage staff assigned to the Grounds and Landscaping Department with effective employee relations planning and execution, performance evaluations, absence management and recruitment operations. Prepare budget detail material, equipment, and labor to support new and existing programs and projects; evaluate and recommend purchase of new equipment and material. Administer fiscal activities for grounds area tracking expenditures, personnel, training, and O/E. Administer contracts with outside vendors and the in-house operations for trash, street sweeping, and other grounds related contracts, as appropriate. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively with a diverse range of individuals and groups both on and off campus. They must possess strong analytical skills, excellent communication and leadership abilities, and a customer service mindset. Must have comprehensive knowledge of horticultural and landscape techniques and of equipment and materials used in landscape maintenance. Experience in contract management, report writing, and cultivating trees, lawns, and shrubs in a university or large institutional setting is required. Ability to maintain general-use athletic fields and collegiate-level sports surfaces (e.g., soccer, baseball, track). Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies and guidelines including safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies. Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Horticulture, Facilities Management, Landscape Services, Public Administration or related field, with 5 years of experience required. Appropriate certificates and licenses in pest control, irrigation and landscaping. Active QAL or QAC with the CA Department of Pesticide Regulations or ability to obtain within two years of hire. Knowledge of California and Federal laws regarding solid waste, recycling, and related regulations. Knowledge of recycle markets. Five years of management experience in grounds maintenance or landscape work in a large institutional setting; strong management techniques. Five years of supervisory experience of a grounds staff including irrigation, pest control, and tree trimming. Physical Summary
Medium work; lifting objects up to 20-40 pounds; 20-40% of time may involve standing, squatting, kneeling, or walking. May involve pushing or pulling objects within weight limits. Licenses and Certifications
Valid California driver’s license. Department

CSU MPP Compensation Summary Range: $7,955 - $11,933 per month. Salary placement based on education, experience, qualifications, internal equity, and department resources. Benefits
