Overview

Director, Institutional Giving, Institutional Advancement. Under the direction of the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, provides strategic and operational leadership for the University’s corporation, foundation, and government fundraising program, in support of the institution’s strategic priorities. The department historically solicits and raises substantial funding each year and ensures compliance with grant guidelines and effective stewardship to support future fundraising success. $9,020.595 – $9,750.00 Note:

Hiring salary can be above the posted pay range if candidate’s qualifications exceed the minimum requirements of the position description.

Duties and Responsibilities Strategic leadership

Develops and executes a comprehensive fundraising strategy to increase financial support from foundation, government, and corporate donors/prospects.

Serves as an integral member of the leadership team for the Division of Institutional Advancement.

Works with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement to engage current and prospective donors in the portfolio.

Stays informed about current events, trends, and news that may impact institutional support of higher education and the nonprofit sector; seeks opportunities for public, private, and nonprofit partnerships that benefit the University.

Participates in University life by serving on or leading committees, workgroups, task forces, and councils as assigned.

Operational leadership

Sets an annual calendar of grant development activities, proposals, and engagement efforts aligned with the University’s priorities.

Maintains proactive relationships with Accounting, Finance and Administration, Financial Aid, Human Resources, Payroll, and funding agencies to ensure grant compliance and process efficiency.

Creates, designs, and implements processes and materials for proposal development, grant operations, and grant management.

Oversees grant/gift acceptance processes including donor acknowledgement, funding notification, and fund creation.

Works with Advancement Services to maintain and administer institutional donor records in Raiser's Edge.

Supervises the Associate Director of Institutional Giving.

Identify funding opportunities

Collaborates with senior leaders to identify needs and new funding opportunities.

Conducts donor research and prospecting to identify and qualify new prospects.

Cultivates relationships with current and prospective institutional donors through engagement activities and communications.

Advises Cabinet on grant opportunities, development, and related administrative concerns.

Coordinates with Individual Giving to maximize case statements, proposals, and cross-prospect relationships.

Develop proposals

Provides strategic leadership and coordination in the development, writing, program design, budgeting, and submission of proposals.

Directs external grant writers (contractual) in developing proposals for the University.

Coordinates donor site visits and prepares visit research briefing materials and talking points for faculty and leadership.

Manage grants

Manages a portfolio of 60+ prospective and active donors.

Assists grant/project managers, staff, and faculty with grant implementation and compliance across financial, personnel, payroll, purchasing, and administration of funded awards.

Collaborates with Marketing and Communications to develop content for corporate, foundation, and government-related communications.

Other duties

Occasional evening and weekend work to support special events.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements Knowledge

Key fundraising concepts and strategies (identification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship).

Grants development process, including prospect research, proposal and budget development, solicitation, and award management.

Grant writing and development communications skills.

Knowledge of institutional funding sources (foundations, corporations, government).

Experience with academic programs and learning support systems in higher education and the Catholic community.

Experience with pre-award sponsored research for government grants.

Previous supervisory experience preferred.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and funder/government grant management systems.

Abilities and Skills

Proven success in grant writing, proposal development, budgeting, and grants administration.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, or related field required (advanced degree preferred).

Additional certificates in fundraising or grant writing desirable.

Experience

Ten years’ experience in development, grant writing, and institutional fundraising strongly preferred, especially in higher education.

Extensive experience pursuing funding from foundations, corporations, and government sources.

Minimum 5 years’ experience managing staff and contractors preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

Valid and current California driver’s license required.
