THIS IS A CITYWIDE EXAM San Francisco is a vibrant and dynamic city, on the forefront of economic growth and innovation, urban development, arts and entertainment, and social issues and change. This description outlines the responsibilities, qualifications, and application process for the engineering position described in this recruitment. Responsibilities

Under general direction, perform difficult and responsible professional engineering work in the field and office; supervise engineering personnel, including consultants engaged in such work. Supervise professional and technical engineering personnel, consultants and other related staff engaged in a variety of engineering projects; assign and review work. Select, train, motivate, monitor, evaluate and counsel staff. Analyze workloads and budgets; supervise and review the preparation of documents; review and analyze bids for conformance with specifications and for award approval; negotiate and modify contracts and resolve claims and disputes. Supervise and monitor the inspection of complex engineering projects and organize and supervise the activities of field inspection staff. Advise operating staff in water/wastewater treatment goals and process optimization; direct or participate in scientific research projects related to the study of water and/or wastewater treatments and their effects on the environment and other engineering functions. Prepare and review engineering designs, drawings and specifications; perform and review difficult engineering calculations. Review federal, regional, and local regulations and legislation affecting engineering work. Analyze and solve complex engineering and process related problems. Write, review, and approve departmental correspondence, reports and other related documents; conduct meetings and make presentations to staff, committees, approval agencies, clients, and the general public. May act as a project engineer or resident engineer for complex projects. Perform other related duties as required. Qualifications

1. Five (5) years of verifiable professional Mechanical Engineering experience, which includes two (2) years experience equivalent to City and County of San Francisco class 5207 Associate Engineer or higher; AND 2. Possession of a current Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California in Mechanical Engineering. Substitutions/Notes

Candidates licensed in other states who otherwise meet the minimum requirements of this announcement, but do not possess the required California license, may file for this examination, and if successful, will be placed under waiver on the resulting eligible list until the required California license is presented. There is no substitution for the required two years of work experience equivalent to a 5207 Associate Engineer or higher. As a new recruitment for this classification will be opening shortly after the eligible list for this one has been adopted, there is no general waiver available for City and County of San Francisco employees who have six (6) months experience as a 5207 Associate Engineer, but less than the required experience for this position, to be admitted to the exam process. License or Certificate

Some positions may require a valid driver license. Working Conditions

Some positions may require specific lifting up to 50 pounds; climbing ladders; working in high places and confined spaces; exposure to various weather conditions and outdoors; bending, sitting, and walking for extended periods of time and over uneven surfaces. Positions in this class may also be required to work specific schedules which may include weekends, holidays, part time, nights, and/or overtime. Verification

One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2000 hours, (2000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40 hours work week), any overtime hours that you work above forty (40) hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment. Selection Procedures

After application submission, candidates deemed qualified must complete all subsequent steps to advance in this selection process, which includes the following: Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire with Training and Experience Evaluation (100%): Candidates will be prompted to complete a Supplemental Questionnaire with Training and Experience Evaluation as part of the online employment application. ThisMinimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire is designed to obtain specific information regarding an applicant's experience in relation to the Minimum Qualifications for this position. Applicants must also complete the official application. It is essential that applicants provide complete information in identifying their education, experience and training. The Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire will be used to evaluate if the applicant possesses the required minimum qualifications and if so, it will also be used to determine the final score and rank on the eligible list/score report. Additional Information Eligible List/Score Report: A confidential eligible list of applicant names that have passed the civil service examination process will be created and used for certification purposes only. An examination score report will be established, so applicants can view the ranks, final scores, and number of eligible candidates. Applicant information, including names of applicants on the eligible list, shall not be made public unless required by law. However, an eligible list shall be made available for public inspection, upon request once the eligible list is exhausted or expired and referrals resolved. The eligible list/score report resulting from this civil service examination process is subject to change after adoption (e.g., as a result of appeals), as directed by the Human Resources Director or the Civil Service Commission. The duration of the eligible list resulting from this examination process will be six months and may be extended with the approval of the Human Resources Director. Additional selection processes may be conducted by the hiring department prior to making final hiring decisions. Please note:
