Assurance Manager, Accounting Advisory & Outsourcing (AAO) at BDO USA. The Manager, AAO manages the full-life cycle of all assigned finance and accounting outsource engagements, including proposal development, staff assignment and oversight, final work product review and portfolio financial performance. Job Duties

Client Service Delivery: Manages the full-life cycle of all assigned engagements by providing technical expertise in all areas within the finance and accounting function. Performs complete general ledger reconciliation including the entire balance sheet and applies accounting knowledge by properly recording transactions in a general ledger; creates accounting records such as bill payments, client invoices, payroll, and others; identifies and records adjustments; produces accurate financial statements, and provides financial analysis. Understands the technology packages clients use to support their accounting/finance functions; can describe major functions, explains purposes and values, identifies underutilized capabilities, learns new technology quickly, and applies these technologies to an engagement. Facilitates effective discovery meetings with clients; uses open-ended questions to identify objectives and the financial information needed for management/decision making. Designs integrated solutions that respond to the specific situation; identifies services outside of BSO as needed and outlines the solution in a concise document for internal vetting. Accurately determines the cost of building a client solution; calculates benefits in dollar terms; proposes a fixed fee based on current scope for review by leadership if margin supports profitability. Works with Senior Managers to formulate recommendations on technical accounting issues, financial accounting policies and procedures, and financial management issues; educates clients on how their needs will evolve; identifies opportunities and future business needs. Periodically reviews solutions with clients to ensure alignment with the current state of the business and recommends changes as needed. Learns to manage conflict and to engage senior leadership when conflicts arise. Supports the client through business changes and helps develop and execute change management plans; handles full-life cycle of all engagements with technical management of all accounting areas. Gathers information from the client, maintains a running list of needed information, follows up to gather missing items, and maintains strong client relationships. Business Development: Learns business development strategies and service offerings for various industries; ensures prospect and sales information is entered into CRM as appropriate. Recommends and designs client solutions; evaluates clients for acceptance and develops statements of work with leadership support. Develops exposure to industry teams and resources; participates in industry groups and networking events; communicates potential opportunities to leadership. Articulates AAO’s value proposition and the firm’s offerings to clients and prospects; understands and communicates the AAO value proposition and target market/client profile. Developing Others: Fosters a change-oriented culture with accountability. Identifies staff development needs to enhance analytics and forecasting, enabling interpretation of financial results and business performance improvements. Ensures AAO Senior Associates and Associates are trained on relevant software, processes and resources. Participates in recruiting for Associates and Senior Associates and assists with onboarding. Serves as a resource for staff, develops knowledge of finance and accounting functions, technology, and industry-specific tax planning considerations; understands compliance requirements and best practices. Project Management: Creates work plans following project management best practices, including phases, tasks, time/budget estimates, milestones, dependencies, and progress reviews. Bills engagements timely and manages economics like forecasting and key metrics. Scopes new projects and builds fee estimates and budgets, identifying resource requirements and transition plans with appropriate margins. Oversees client satisfaction with deliverables, staff, and engagement performance. Ensures timely billing per SOW and follows AAO billing/collections practices; resolves billing issues. Other duties as required. Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises day-to-day workload of BSO Senior Associates and Associates on engagements and reviews work products. Oversees client engagements with BSC personnel, reviewing work and providing feedback. Acts as a Career Advisor to AAO staff and assists in performance development. Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or Economics, required. MBA or related advanced degree preferred. Six (6) or more years’ experience performing general accounting transactions and functions, required. Two (2) or more years of supervisory experience preferred. Experience with outsourced/delivery center operations and/or consultative or business advisory experience preferred. CPA certification preferred. Skills & Certifications: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) required. Experience with accounting software and BDODrive platform software (e.g., QuickBooks Online, Microsoft NAV, Bill.com) preferred; experience with accounting research tools preferred. Strong verbal and written communication; GAAP knowledge; financial statement presentation and report writing; excellent organizational skills; ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines; ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
