Overview

The Future Talent Program features Co-ops that last up to six months and may include one or more projects. These opportunities in our Research Labs provide development exposure and a chance to see if our company aligns with your long-term goals. The Pharmaceutical Sciences & Clinical Supplies (PSCS) organization is a Global R&D division of our Research Labs (RL) responsible for translating therapeutic agents into functional drugs and combination products optimized for patient benefit. The Device Development (DD) group within PSCS focuses on discovering, developing and commercializing inhaled, nasal and parenteral medical delivery devices that support vaccines, biologics and small molecules requiring challenging delivery routes. We are seeking Co-op candidates with strong academic performance, communication skills, teamwork, and the ability to work in a multi-functional environment. Co-ops will participate in departmental and project team meetings to gain a broad perspective on the drug development process. The Co-op student will have opportunities to present research results in oral and written formats. During the Co-op appointment you will work closely with and be mentored by an experienced pharmaceutical industry scientist on a research project or projects. We have two Co-op positions for 2024 at our Rahway, NJ site focused on (1) Human Factors (HF) Engineering and (2) device & combination product characterization. Responsibilities

Participate in departmental and project team meetings to gain broad exposure to drug development processes. Work on a research project or projects under the mentorship of an experienced pharmaceutical industry scientist. Present research results in oral and written formats as appropriate. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams within the organization. Qualifications

Must be enrolled in a college or institution pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Material Science, Chemical, Industrial Design, or an equivalent field (M.S. and Ph.D. candidates strongly preferred). Availability for up to a 6-month Co-op at Rahway, NJ site. Solid medical device and/or combination product testing knowledge. Strong understanding of basic engineering skills and scientific principles. Fundamental analytical characterization skills, including test method development, data analysis and result interpretation. Ability to work independently in a laboratory setting with awareness of standard laboratory safety practices. Experience with mechanical testing, imaging, and measurement equipment and techniques (e.g., tensile/compression testing, surface characterization, material testing, X-ray computed tomography, rheometry, microscopy). Excellent collaboration, ideation, and prototyping skills including developing proof of concepts, working prototypes and conducting functional testing. Experience with 3D CAD modeling and 2D drawing creation (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD). Awareness of geometric dimensioning & tolerancing and stack-up analysis. Basic understanding of various manufacturing processes & automation equipment. Fluency in finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, formal presentation) and ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams. Knowledge of medical devices, pharmaceutical, healthcare, or similar regulated industry is a significant plus. Notes
