Overview

Resilient Infrastructure Systems Analyst – Physics World This requisition describes multiple openings for highly qualified engineers to join an interdisciplinary team specializing in Infrastructure System Resilience Analysis, supporting the resilience of infrastructure systems to cyber, physical, and natural threats. Roles include responsibilities across modeling, analysis, and collaboration with sponsors and partners within LLNL’s Computational Engineering Division (CED). Responsibilities

Contribute to and participate in the conception, development, implementation, execution, and documentation of analytical questions and plans to provide decision insights on infrastructure resilience problems of moderate complexity. Develop analytical models, tools, and frameworks to characterize infrastructure resilience issues such as interdependencies, system-level impacts from natural hazards and intelligent adversary attacks, and cost-benefit of technology or operational solutions. Support the development, evaluation, and application of physical and computational simulations to gain insight into moderately complex infrastructure systems. Leverage knowledge from disciplines such as systems engineering, decision analysis, risk analysis, applied statistics and optimization to contribute to innovative methodologies. Collaborate with scientists across multiple technical disciplines (cybersecurity, physical security, natural hazards, infrastructure systems) to share knowledge and recommendations. Manage multiple projects and priorities to meet deadlines, working independently within the scope of the assignment. Communicate complex technical concepts to stakeholders concisely and effectively. Interact with technical contacts at sponsor and partner organizations. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications

Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship. Master’s degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, industrial, chemical, civil, or systems), computer science (data or information science), operations research, or related technical field, or equivalent experience. Experience in developing models or frameworks to characterize and assess moderately complex infrastructure systems and/or threats and risks to these systems. Knowledge in computational disciplines such as risk analysis, decision analysis, data analytics, statistical modeling, modeling and simulation, control system design, systems engineering, or related fields. Ability to define and apply research questions and defensible methods and approaches. Proficient verbal and written communication skills for collaboration and presenting products to stakeholders. Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to develop creative solutions for moderately complex problems. Ability to travel off-site for sponsor and customer interactions. Additional Qualifications (SES.3 Level)

Ph.D. in engineering, computer science, operations research, or related field, or equivalent experience. Advanced knowledge in infrastructure systems, energy systems, cyber security, physical security, or related disciplines. Experience with risk analysis, systems analysis, decision analysis, data analytics, statistical modeling, modeling and simulation, and related areas. Ability to independently develop and execute complex analyses and prepare tailored reports. Significant leadership skills and experience managing diverse technical teams. Desirable Qualifications

Broad experience in design, operations, or modeling of infrastructure systems (e.g., transportation, water, energy, communications) and interdependencies. Experience with Python, Simulink, R, MATLAB, Java, or C++ for building models and simulations. Position Details
