As an Advanced Flight Deck Systems Principal Engineer, you will operate as the Principal Investigator and/or Program Manager for advanced technology research projects. Responsibilities include leading technological innovation, designing future flight deck features, rapid prototyping concepts, lab testing, flight testing, tracking and reporting program status, deploying Agile methodologies, and ensuring on-time completion of customer milestones and deliverables. You will design and develop innovative human-computer interface solutions to improve safety and efficiency in operating aircraft, supporting the design of flight decks, autonomous systems, speech recognition, and user interfaces based on human-centered design and cognition/decision-making. You will conduct proof-of-concept lab experiments and flight tests and document results in technical reports, researching and utilizing new technologies such as AI, speech/voice, and AR/VR to support new advanced features in the Anthem flight deck. Perform as Principal Investigator/Program Manager on future Advanced Technology projects integrated into Honeywell’s Anthem and Epic flight decks Lead technology maturation through TRL6 and transition of technology to product engineering teams Conduct research into cutting-edge aerospace and flight deck systems with emphasis on increasing autonomy Translate customer insights into innovative concepts and prototypes for testing with users Develop functioning prototypes demonstrating technology maturation and transition to next-generation Honeywell Aerospace products Develop and validate Human Factors requirements Prototype Human-Machine Interfaces Lead pursuit activities and identify external funding opportunities (DARPA/AFRL/IARPA, etc.) Leverage new technologies and integrate concepts into research proposals Manage externally funded R&D projects with cross-organizational teams and sub-contractors in an agile environment Mentor junior engineers and have a meaningful impact on people Qualifications
You Must Have Bachelor’s Degree in Human Factors, Aerospace, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field 10+ years of experience designing and developing avionics systems 10+ years of experience in developing research concepts, securing funding, and executing funded research We Value Master’s or Doctoral degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Aeronautical/Aerospace Experience writing and winning large research proposals for Government funding (e.g., DARPA, IARPA, AFRL, DHS) Leadership in integrating technologies into value propositions for externally funded research and leading cross-functional teams Strong communication skills for presentations and customer briefings Ability to derive requirements, build customer relationships, and develop winning proposals External networks for open innovation and adoption of avionics and defense technologies Flight deck design, piloting, or UAS/robotics experience Experience with model-based design tools and/or Formal Methods Knowledge of aerospace/defense industry guidelines and standards Experience in human-machine interface prototyping and human factors requirements Experience in an aerospace environment and ability to work with minimal oversight Strong decision-making and cross-cultural communication abilities Licensed Pilot experience About Us
