Overview
The Department of Integrative Biology at the University of Texas at Austin seeks to fill a faculty position at the Full Professor rank to serve as the Director of the Billie L. Turner Plant Resources Center (PRC). The PRC has a world-class plant collection of 1.1 million specimens in two herbaria, TEX and LL, and is a part of the Biodiversity Center within the Department of Integrative Biology. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate exemplary leadership of the PRC in biodiversity programming. The PRC has three full-time staff and several large endowments that secure its future funding. The PRC also has two endowed faculty positions in systematic botany and eligible candidates will be nominated to be the holder of the Sidney F. and Doris Blake Centennial Professorship in Systematic Botany. Responsibilities
Provide exemplary leadership of the PRC in biodiversity programming. Lead and manage a collection consisting of 1.1 million specimens in two herbaria (TEX and LL) as part of the Biodiversity Center. Sustain and grow the PRC funding through endowments and associated resources. Engage with associated field stations and leverage opportunities offered by the plant collections for research, teaching, and scholarly training. Qualifications
Outstanding record of research that demonstrates innovation in addressing fundamental questions in biodiversity and evolution of plants. Demonstrated successful career including influential publications and extramural research funding. Commitment to excellent teaching and mentoring. Experience that engages with plant collections and related field stations; active involvement with graduate students and postdoctoral training is desirable. Application process
