Overview
A nationally active real estate investment and development group is seeking a Senior Counsel to join its Legal & Compliance function in Denver, CO. This position will serve as the principal legal partner to internal teams overseeing large-scale mixed-use, hospitality, and commercial development projects across multiple U.S. markets. The role offers the opportunity to guide projects through all phases of development—from acquisition and entitlement through design, construction, and delivery. The ideal candidate is a seasoned, business-minded attorney who enjoys working closely with operations and development executives in a fast-paced, collaborative setting. Key Responsibilities
Provide practical legal counsel on real estate development, construction, design, and project delivery matters. Draft, review, and negotiate a high volume of contracts, including AIA-based design and construction agreements, consulting and vendor contracts, and other project documentation. Oversee legal aspects of development initiatives including site acquisition, land-use, entitlements, and environmental compliance. Advise project teams on contract strategy, risk allocation, insurance requirements, and claims prevention. Assist with purchase and sale agreements, leases, easements, covenants, and other transactional documents supporting ongoing development activity. Collaborate with internal stakeholders and outside counsel to streamline contracting processes, update templates, and enhance compliance protocols. Support the General Counsel and senior leadership on strategic initiatives and special projects. Qualifications
J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar (Colorado preferred). Minimum of 10 years’ experience in real estate, construction, or development law, with in-house or major law firm experience. Advanced understanding of construction and design contracting. Proven ability to negotiate complex agreements and balance legal precision with commercial practicality. Seniority level
