About the Role
Join the team behind the next generation of Client Maps. As a
Mechanical Engineer , you’ll play a critical role in designing and developing robust sensing systems that operate in diverse and challenging environments. Your work will directly impact the accuracy and reliability of Street View data, enabling millions of users to explore the world. This role offers a broad mandate to influence complex hardware products across the mapping organization. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams—including electrical, software, and product design—to deliver innovative mechanical solutions that meet stringent operational requirements. Responsibilities
Serve as the mechanical lead for complex sensing systems, driving design decisions from concept through production. Develop detailed 3D models and engineering drawings, ensuring high-quality design documentation using GD&T standards (ASME Y14.5). Conduct mechanical analysis using tools such as FEA and CFD to validate performance under harsh environmental conditions. Lead failure analysis, validation testing, and strategic investments in tooling and technology. Create and maintain comprehensive design documentation, including BOMs, specifications, test plans, and SOPs. Collaborate with manufacturing partners to ensure designs are optimized for production and long-term reliability. Generate clear and concise reports and presentations to communicate design decisions and test results. Manage product lifecycle documentation through PLM systems, including ECR generation and tracking. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience. 6+ years of experience in mechanical design and development. Preferred Qualifications
Deep understanding of manufacturing processes including machining, sheet metal, welding, injection molding, casting, composites, and additive manufacturing. Expertise in engineering materials suitable for outdoor and extreme environments (e.g., metals, polymers, adhesives, lubricants, ceramics). Strong knowledge of opto-mechanics and mechanical systems integration. Proficiency in CAD modeling and drawing best practices. Experience with PLM systems and managing product lifecycle documentation. Senioriy level
