Main Purpose of Job The mission of the Maryland Board of Physicians (Board) is to assure quality health care in Maryland through the efficient licensure and effective discipline of health providers under its jurisdiction by protecting and educating clients/customers and stakeholders, and enforcing the Maryland Medical Practice Act.
The main purpose of this full-time position will be to direct, supervise, and assist in the daily operations of the Maryland Board of Physicians Policy & Legislation Unit. This position will evaluate efficiency of operations as well as develop, revise and recommend new policies, standards, and workflow procedures. This position will also implement new regulations and policies as directed by upper management, set goals and deadlines and oversee the workflow of the unit. In addition, this position will coordinate leave and staff coverage, support the organization in the areas of regulations, legislation, governmental affairs, communication, and policy issues surrounding the effective and efficient licensure and discipline of Physicians and the Allied Health Occupations throughout the State of Maryland.
Minimum Qualifications Education:
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience:
Six years of administrative staff or professional work.
Notes
Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.
Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.
Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university for five years of the required experience.
Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
Desired Or Preferred Qualifications The desired candidate should possess:
Experience with legislation.
Experience interpreting statutes and regulations.
Experience delivering oral presentations and testimony.
Experience writing position papers.
Written and oral communication skills.
Licenses, Registrations and Certifications Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
