Overview The parishes of the Good Shepherd Pastorate are seeking a passionate and faith-filled Director of Youth Ministry to lead our youth in deepening their relationship with Christ and the Church.

The Director of Youth Ministry is responsible for providing youth ministry to the Good Shepherd Pastorate with the goal of helping youth develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, practice it in daily life, pursue life-long learning, and participate in the faith. The role also fosters a sound knowledge of the Catholic faith, love for the Church, and service as an integral part of discipleship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Regularly engage in ecclesiastical or religious activities that convey the message of the Catholic Church, carry out its mission, and address the religious needs of the faithful as called for in Catholic doctrine, teachings, and traditions.

Organize and supervise small groups to foster connections for young people.

Form and supervise adult lay volunteers to run church-level small groups.

Organize and direct events and activities that convey the message of the Catholic Church.

Develop 2–3 yearly retreats and trips that carry out the mission of the Catholic Church.

Organize, promote, and participate in defined Pastorate and Diocesan events and opportunities—including liturgies and festivals—that teach the doctrine, teachings, and traditions of the Catholic Faith.

Collaborate with the communications director to ensure communication procedures comply with all diocesan safe environment policies.

Develop, maintain, communicate, and execute a twelve-month calendar; record-keeping; metrics tracking; activity/event evaluations; budgeting; and fundraising.

Create an attitude of service among youth by proactively seeking service opportunities and monitoring city, state, and national current events.

Work collaboratively with other Youth Ministry programs to achieve citywide participation and planning for citywide lock-ins, annual concerts, fundraising, and nationally focused events/conferences (e.g., Steubenville youth conference, National Eucharistic Congress).

Other duties as assigned by the Pastor.

Essential Qualifications

Willingness and ability to communicate the Catholic Church’s teachings through ministry activities.

Willingness and ability to model the Catholic faith and doctrine in professional and personal life, in accordance with Catholic Church documents including the Catechism.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in religious education or theology, or national credential in Youth Ministry, or background in theology and education methodologies, preferred.

Experience

Minimum of three years’ experience showing growth in organizational leadership skills, preferred.

Other Elements

Active member of a Roman Catholic parish faith community.

Knowledge of all Diocesan guidelines and procedures.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Understanding and working knowledge of digital and electronic platforms, social media platforms, and various web applications.

Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment; think strategically, multitask, and adapt to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines.

Proven communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals while maintaining strict confidentiality.
