Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century’s most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril’s family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years. ABOUT THE ROLE: You’ll be the leader for Anduril’s Air Vehicle design engineering organization. This group will be accountable for the engineering disciplines in the design of Group 5 UAS and missile systems. This includes aero performance, mechanical systems, airframe detailed design, structural analysis and propulsion integration efforts.

Areas of responsibility include conceptual layout through detailed design, build, assembly, and integration. Flight test support from first prototype builds through transition to production. These products will be diverse in nature yet require your drive and direction in implementing design standards and analytical tool sets. You will leverage your technical expertise as well as leadership skills to set objectives, build a team, and drive to completion. The ability to leverage your intuition and prior experience in key technical decisions will be vital in making sure the right design/analysis/ and test steps are being completed to ensure success.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience as being the lead of clean sheet design for a group 5 aircraft or missile system and also have foundational expertise in one or more engineering disciplines listed earlier. WHAT YOU'LL DO: Lead the technical execution of new and existing air vehicle systems design, fabrication, test and productization. This includes aircraft and missiles. Lead the long term functional engineering team development roadmap to ensure we have the skillsets, capabilities and workflows to enable successful execution of current and future programs. Own the technical success and meet deliverable timelines in all phases of development. Establish a center of excellence in air vehicle design that includes a library of standards, allowables, and tool sets to build upon. Find, hire, manage, and mentor the team of internal and external subject matter experts, and communicate that vision to them. Partner closely with the business lines in areas of proposal capture, customer interface, resource planning, capital expenditures and program schedules. Partner closely with additional stakeholder disciplines that are not under you direct organizational leadership; These include but are not limited to production, supply chain, energetics, avionics, sensor-payloads, wiring, GNC, Flight test and evaluation. Manage the detailed design of the system and subsystems including requirements development, sub-system trades and optimization, risk management to ensure the appropriate consideration of design key performance parameters, schedule, costs and risks. Own the fabrication of prototype and low-rate production articles and subsystem/system level test efforts. Own the design of airframe tooling for composite parts Own the overall model/drawing/documentation package required for initial build and effective production transition. Work with senior leadership to ensure resource plans are adequate. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Deep understanding and previous systems leadership of group 5 unmanned aircraft and/or missile airframe systems. Early previous baseline experience in any of the following disciplines you will be managing. 15+ years of experience in a senior role leading air vehicle programs from initial concept through test and delivery to customers Strong understanding of the “why” behind vehicle and systems design. Experience working on mission critical DOD systems Experience creating teams and focusing them around a common vision Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical or Software engineering, or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
