Director, Philanthropy at Humane Society Silicon Valley (HSSV) drives impact by forging partnerships and securing funding to support lifesaving programs, rescue operations, shelter expansions, and community access to care. The role advances fundraising efforts to expand reach and deepen impact in animal welfare. Responsibilities

Become part of a high-performing philanthropy team with diverse experience across sectors and a culture rooted in innovation and impact. Engage and inspire new and existing donors throughout the giving cycle, aiming to secure five to seven-figure gifts by aligning donor passion with the mission. Design and deliver mission-centric experiences including tours of HSSV facilities, offsite medical clinics, and donor engagement activities such as rescue runs. Nurture donor portfolios with strategic engagement touch points, maintaining confidentiality of all prospect, donor, and internal information. Engage with prospects and donors through in-person and virtual meetings to close major gifts, blended gifts, endowment gifts, and multi-year pledges. Collaborate with HSSV’s President and Leadership Team to expand fundraising capacity. Partner with internal teams to optimize the constituent journey and strengthen donor relationships. Stay informed about HSSV programs and changes in charitable giving opportunities; continuously expand fundraising knowledge and practices. Use data and performance metrics to identify new prospects, cultivate relationships, and upgrade existing major donors. Represent HSSV at speaking engagements and community events to inspire engagement and support. Develop skills through strategic training supported by the organization’s commitment to professional growth. Qualifications

Experience in a large, complex fundraising environment (e.g., major university, academic medical center, or established nonprofit) with a track record of collaboration within a metrics-driven development team. Deep passion for the mission of HSSV — to save lives, keep families together, and create a better future for pets and their people. Proven experience closing five to seven-figure gifts in a nonprofit setting, with a focus on cultivating donor relationships that drive investment and mission-aligned action. Professional acumen, discretion, and decisiveness necessary to build trust and inspire confidence among prospects, donors, and stakeholders. Excellent written and verbal communication and relationship-building skills for internal and external audiences. Proficiency with donor management and digital engagement tools (e.g., Salesforce or comparable platforms). Commitment to making a difference and a laser focus on identifying, cultivating, and securing high-impact philanthropic opportunities, with a track record of engaging existing donors and opening doors to new ones. Work Days and Hours

Primary schedule is Monday–Friday. The candidate should be located in the Bay Area to participate in some events that occur in the evenings and/or on weekends. The majority of time will be in the field, actively engaging with donors and cultivating meaningful relationships to advance the mission. About the Organization
