Boston Medical Center (BMC) Position Summary: The Cardiovascular Certified Surgical Technologist, an essential member of the surgical team, ensures appropriate selection, preparation, and sterility of instrumentation and equipment necessary to contribute to a positive outcome for the surgical patient. They are responsible for assisting the team by scrubbing in on cardiovascular cases. Position: Cardiovascular Surgical Tech Department: Operating Room Schedule: 40 hours, (4) 10 hour shifts Essential Responsibilities / Duties Expertly performs role of a resource surgical technician in cardiovascular surgery Performs scrub duties according to procedure, demonstrating a high level of skill and efficiency, while displaying the surgical consciousness required within this highly specialized environment Works closely with all cardiac surgery team to facilitate and coordinate exceptional, efficient, and quality patient care Contributes to the team by participating in staff meetings and in-service presentations Accountable for accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments as appropriate before, during, and at close of surgical procedures Demonstrates a working knowledge of national patient safety goals Acts as preceptor for staff members for all aspects of the Cardiovascular system Demonstrates collegial behavior with regard to work environment (restocking rooms, returning equipment/supplies, cleaning work areas, appropriate communication) Displays surgical conscience in aseptic technique to maintain a sterile environment Anticipates the instruments/equipment the surgeon requires Assists in turnover of rooms and preps the Operating Room for patients Participates in the Time Out process; speaks up with concerns until resolution Works as a team player to complete tasks with high accuracy in a fast-paced environment Holds retractors and completes additional tasks at the surgeon's request during procedures Handles tissue specimens obtained for laboratory analysis Organizes and restocks the OR following surgical procedures Job Requirements Graduate from accredited Surgical Technician Program. Associates degree preferred. 1 year scrubbing experience in Cardiac Surgery Certification/Licensure: ARC/STSA or NBSTSA BLS required Two years' experience working as a Cardiac Surgery Technician in a tertiary hospital preferred Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in surgical technician responsibilities including case preparation, set up, aseptic technique, instrumentation, equipment and supplies, and room turnover Experience in Operating Room, PV Lab and/or Hybrid Operating Room preferred Ability to work as part of a team providing excellent specialized care Ability to maintain good working relationships with surgeons and other staff Good verbal and written communication skills in English Working condition requirements (lifting, vision, environmental conditions) Equal Opportunity Employer/Disabled/Veterans According to the FTC, there has been a rise in employment offer scams.
