Overview
Collects blood specimens, receives, handles and processes specimens for Laboratory testing. Interacts with patients of diverse ages, backgrounds, values, beliefs and behavior. Receives, sorts and accession specimens, assigns to appropriate pre-analytic and analytic workflow. Completes computerized tasks related to patient registration and/or test order entry, specimen collection, receiving and processing. Performs basic post-analytic tasks, including distributing reports, storing and/or retrieving specimens. Completes quality-related tasks such as documentation of work, maintaining a clean, stocked and safe work area, and monitoring pending work, as well as escalating priority work. Operates and/or uses basic pre-analytic lab equipment. Adheres to all local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies and procedures to ensure privacy and safety while delivering optimal patient care.
Responsibilities
- Receive, accession and process specimens; prepare for pre-analytic and analytic workflow.
- Collect blood specimens and perform related tasks in support of laboratory testing.
- Complete patient registration/test order entry and related computerized tasks.
- Distribute reports and manage specimen storage/retrieval as needed.
- Maintain a clean, stocked, and safe work area; monitor pending work; escalate priority items.
- Operate basic pre-analytic laboratory equipment and ensure compliance with privacy/safety regulations.
Qualifications
- Education: HS Diploma or GED.
- Certification & Licensure: CPTI-Certified Phlebotomy Technician I or CPT II-Certified Phlebotomy Technician II.
- Experience: 1 year recent relevant experience.
Skills and Knowledge
- Knowledge of ordering laboratory testing, collecting blood specimens, and interacting with patients compassionately.
- Ability to handle and process biological specimens submitted to the Laboratory.
- Ability to organize and prioritize duties; effective communication; collaboration in a team setting.
Workflow Management & Compliance
- Respond appropriately to fluctuations in volume, equipment or system issues, and priority assignments.
- Follow standard practices, processes, procedures, and applicable regulations to ensure privacy and safety of patients.

Pay Range: $33.53 to $41.91 / hour
The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for geographic differentials. Compensation takes into account factors including experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Base pay is part of the total rewards program. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package.
