Georgetown University is seeking a Custodian to perform general and specific cleaning and maintenance tasks to provide a clean, safe and pleasant physical environment. The incumbent may perform additional tasks in emergencies or unusual situations with guidance from a supervisor. The role supports a cleaning plan and involves working with standard tools, equipment, materials, and safety rules.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general and specific cleaning and maintenance tasks as directed by the supervisor to provide a clean, safe, and pleasant environment.
  • Assist with snow and ice removal, water or fire damage cleanup, and special event support when required.
  • Clean up to 28,000–35,000 square feet per eight-hour shift.
  • Adhere to safety rules, regulations, and department guidelines; represent the department professionally to the University community.
  • Collaborate with Facilities staff as part of a team and be flexible to accommodate emergencies and staffing needs.

Work Interactions

  • This position reports to a Custodial Supervisor. Work may be done individually or with others.
  • May receive assignments from the Manager of Custodial Services and/or the Night Operations Manager; under certain circumstances, assignments may come from the Work Management Center, the Director of Facilities Management, the Resource Manager, or other department managers.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • HS diploma or GED preferred
  • One year of custodial work experience preferred
  • Valid and current driver’s license from MD, VA, or DC
  • Basic English reading, writing, and speaking ability to understand product labels and University policies
  • Ability to clearly communicate custodial and maintenance issues to supervision
  • Must complete a training program in building cleaning
