Department overview
The Department of Urology at OHSU is committed to providing the highest quality, state-of-the-art care for adult urology patients. Our physicians are recognized leaders in their fields, have advanced fellowship training in urological subspecialties, and are expert, high-volume surgeons. The practice is in the Adult Urology clinic in CHH on the South Waterfront. The clinic includes ten physicians, one nurse practitioner, four physician assistants, and support staff such as patient access specialists and MAs. The practice specializes in adult urologic care, offering services including catheterizations, specimen collections, biopsies, cystoscopies, urodynamics, vasectomies, stent procedures, voiding trials, medications, Foley placement, and related procedures.
Function/Duties of position
This position requires some onsite presence with occasional travel to the clinic at Adventist Health Portland. The RN provides direct and indirect professional nursing care for patients, represents the practice in-person and over the telephone, collaborates with other OHSU departments and non-OHSU facilities, assesses patient and family needs, develops a care plan, and implements and evaluates care delivered. The RN is expected to practice in accordance with professional standards, core values, and a commitment to service excellence. The RN provides compassionate, evidence-based, and efficient care consistent with the Oregon Nurse Practice Act, the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics, contributing to a professional practice model that emphasizes inter-professional collaboration, innovation, and lifelong learning.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience with emphasis on adult care
- BSN: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by CCNE, ACEN or CNEA 30 days before start date
- ADN: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before start date
- Associate degree nurses: enroll in BSN within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years
- Current, unencumbered Oregon State RN License
- Current, unencumbered Washington RN license
- BLS at time of hire (AHA) and must not expire during orientation
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with telephone triage
- Experience in an ambulatory clinic setting
- National certification in a relevant nursing specialty
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in collaborative settings
- Experience in patient and family education, including development of teaching materials
- Experience with patients with implanted cardiac devices and other advanced cardiac therapies
- Excellent organizational skills and professional demeanor
- Current EPIC EMR competency
Additional Details
Length of Orientation – Experienced Nurse: External candidates attend OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week. Transition to Practice (TTP) or Orientation experience for 3 days to 26 weeks depending on care area; employment service agreement may apply.
