Overview
HPC - Senior System Administrator - VMware, Linux, Configuration. This role oversees the most critical aspects of the HPC and Datacenter Infrastructure, leading strategic planning, architecture design, and the deployment of enterprise-scale projects to ensure robustness, security, and efficiency. Responsibilities
Manage essential infrastructure services to ensure high availability and performance of data center services, physical and virtual server-class systems, and storage. Lead medium-to-large scale projects, design and implement system policies, conduct advanced troubleshooting, and participate in direct recovery during critical system failures. Mentor junior staff and collaborate with cross-functional teams (network, storage, SecOps) to orchestrate major initiatives and outage management. Install, configure, tune, troubleshoot, and administer multi-vendor servers and applications to support HPC division IT requirements (Red Hat or SUSE, SAN storage or SSDs). Distribute computing tools such as ReS, LSF, and SLURM; manage HPC farm systems, HPC MPP clusters, and Front End servers for SPDs. Manage IBM/HP blade servers with FC/SAS/Network back ends and multi-vendor filesystems (XFS, GPFS, Lustre). Perform system security hardening and ongoing monitoring using tools like Tenable Nessus, Nagios, and Splunk; manage identity and access with tools including Centrify and Active Directory. Lead security and vulnerability management initiatives and oversee vendor hardware/software across multiple data centers. Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field, or five (5) years of related full-time computer science work substituted for the degree, plus ten (10) years of demonstrable experience in enterprise IT system administration. Industry-recognized professional certification may substitute for one year of experience. Required Skills: CompTIA Security+ CE; mastery of VMware ecosystem; extensive experience with Hyper-converged Infrastructure; knowledge of PODs, CentOS/RHEL 7/8/9, and VDI (VMware Horizon, Citrix VDI); strong experience with Active Directory, LDAP, Centrify, Infoblox; monitoring with Nagios and Splunk; automation with Shell scripting, Salt, Ansible; Linux provisioning with Kickstart and Cobbler; security protocols and Nessus-based vulnerability assessments; multi-datacenter enterprise administration; Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence); cross-functional collaboration; experience with XFS, GPFS, Lustre filesystems. Desired Skills: VMware Certified Professional; Red Hat Certified System Administrator or Red Hat Certified Engineer is a plus. Clearance
