Overview
Kiewit Nuclear Solutions is seeking an Assistant Project Engineer to join our Engineering and Operations Team that is focused on carbon-free technologies such as Small Modular Reactors. The Assistant Project Engineer will be responsible for the administrative and technical aspects of constructing a project, assisting in managing a team of field and cost engineers. This role requires an aptitude for practical engineering, a willingness to immerse oneself in the position, the ability to work with little supervision, strong leadership skills, and a willingness to travel periodically. You will be the main conduit of information between the project manager and the team for technical, cost, and schedule information and will have the opportunity to develop others with a succession plan toward project management.

Location
The position is located in Idaho Falls, ID.
Responsibilities
Perform integrated engineering processes to fulfill project requirements and achieve target dates.
Author and review designs, specifications, analyses, and drawings in compliance with engineering principles and applicable standards.
Prepare and review design concept drawings for equipment using input from various technical disciplines.
Recognize, define, and resolve problems within the assigned area.
Develop a complete understanding of contract plans and specifications for the portion of work assigned.
Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost-saving measures; take corrective actions as needed.
Inspect subordinates’ work for compliance with contract plans and specifications, point out deficiencies, and coordinate corrective actions.
Develop and maintain the project master schedule using appropriate techniques and scheduling software with input from other project management personnel.
Manage document control; receive and log new issue drawings and other contract documents; maintain a document control log.
Ensure compliance with strict quality assurance standards and on-time delivery.
Travel (less than 20% of time).
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited four-year university.
Undergraduate degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or equivalent.
3-5+ years’ work experience in construction or engineering.
Knowledge, application, and understanding of ASME Codes is desired.
Excellent attention to detail and capability for producing error-free documents.
Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Knowledge of engineering design practices and principles (e.g., interference checks, tolerance stack-ups, fits, GD&T).
Experience with using industry codes to develop equipment design.
Experience working with engineers and fabricators to develop designs and drawings.
Experience in the preparation of equipment sizing calculations, P&ID, PFD, and General Arrangement drawings for skid-mounted or permanent equipment packages.
