Overview
Kahler Slater is seeking a registered Project Architect with 7+ years of experience to join our national healthcare team in delivering master planning, advisory services, acute care, ambulatory care, and pediatric environments. Our ideal candidate is passionate about developing specifications across markets and detailing complex projects aligned with the requirements of medical practice and patient care. As an Architectural Specification Writer and Project Architect, you will bring an understanding of healthcare building typologies including construction techniques, sustainable methods, and building technologies. You will collaborate with our design team to identify project goals and key drivers and create effective design solutions. You will work across multiple project teams in alignment with our open and flexible culture that encourages individual initiative and collaboration. You will build trusting relationships within the team and across Kahler Slater.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Project Development Review drawings and other project information to write and edit specifications for projects to comply with project requirements, firm standards, technical conditions, client guidelines, and applicable codes Working from the office master specifications and AIA Masterspec, plan, schedule, organize, and prepare architectural specifications for the various phases/milestone deliverables of projects Review project procurement and contracting requirements and prepare Division 01 General Requirement sections Review consultant specifications for coordination with each project manual and for conformance with firm standards Perform product research; assist project designers with material and product selections; validate product applications and verify compliance with applicable codes and office standards Provide periodic coordination and quality control reviews during document preparation phases Participate in team meetings to obtain project design requirements and define project scope for inclusion in specifications Stay current on building technology, product developments, new materials, code changes, and industry trends Assist in maintaining and contributing to the office master specifications Collaborate with project teams and provide your expertise to make the best project decisions Support Project Leader in project management tasks, focusing on schedule, staffing, and budget
Leadership
Direct and manage the internal and external design team Inspire, motivate, and lead project team in client service, design approach, and project delivery Establish an environment that encourages experimentation, innovation, and design creativity Coordinate the project’s design intent with technical project requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
7+ years of experience as an architectural professional with 3+ years of increased responsibility in writing, editing, and developing CSI Section Format 3-part specifications Professional degree in Architecture 5+ years with architectural registration is required 7+ years of Revit production experience, and proficiency utilizing Revit and automation technologies Experience in the selection of building materials and systems High level of understanding and familiarity with the International Building Code (IBC) Successful team-orientation and collaboration behaviors Diligence in seeking solutions to complex problems Strong communications skills, spoken, written, and graphic Focuses on collaboration and cooperation with others, demonstrating project and technical leadership Efficiently responds to client needs Ability to coach and be coachable Able to work effectively under pressure and within restrictive time deadlines and budget parameters while maintaining focus and a positive attitude Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam Revu, and AIA Masterspec Familiarity with Autodesk Revit and Deltek Masterworks / Specpoint; VisiSpecs preferred LEED familiarity required; LEED AP preferred. Knowledge of sustainable design methodologies and techniques Construction Document Technologist (CDT) certification required; Certified Construction Specifier (CCS) preferred and must be obtained within 3 years of hire date
Working relationships and scope
Report to Healthcare Team Leader and Lead Architectural Specification Writer Collaborate with other design and project team members Represent the firm in alignment with Kahler Slater’s core values Mentor junior staff members
Working conditions
