Overview The Nebraska Medicine Trauma and Surgical Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellowship is a structured, 12-month post graduate program designed to support the transition from academic preparation to clinical practice for new or experienced APPs seeking advanced training in trauma and surgical critical care. Fellows will gain exposure to the full spectrum of trauma and surgical critical care, developing advanced clinical acumen, procedural skills, and confidence in managing complex, critically ill patients. Upon completion of the fellowship, participants will be well prepared to assume independent practice in high-acuity or emergent settings.

Status: Full-Time, 1.0 FTE (Exempt) | Benefit Eligible with Flex Time
Schedule: Rotating days and nights (variable); holiday coverage required

About the Fellowship The fellowship provides robust clinical training through a combination of:
Supervised clinical practice, led by experienced APPs and physicians
Dedicated mentorship and professional development
Elective rotation opportunities to broaden clinical knowledge and exposure to related specialties
Formal didactic education covering key concepts in trauma and critical care
Fellows will gain exposure to the full spectrum of trauma and surgical critical care, developing advanced clinical acumen, procedural skills, and confidence in managing complex, critically ill patients. Upon completion of the fellowship, participants will be well prepared to assume independent practice in high-acuity or emergent settings.

Required Qualifications APP Surgical Care - Trauma and Surgical Critical Care Fellow
Nurse Practitioner
Master's or doctoral degree in nursing from an accredited school/college of nursing required.
Minimum of two years RN experience or equivalent combination of RN and nurse practitioner experience required (two years RN equals one year APRN).
Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Nebraska or in a current compact state.
Currently licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Practitioner (APRN) required.
Appropriate certification based on position, population served: AGACNP-BC or ANP-BC or FNP-BC (will require post-graduate certificate for AGACNP-BC within 3 years of hire/transfer) or AGPCNP-BC with certificate requirements noted.
Physician Assistant
Master’s degree from an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant program, or equivalent experience with eligibility requirements as described in the job posting.
Ability to maintain CME hours to meet Nebraska and NCCPA requirements.
Currently licensed as a Physician Assistant in Nebraska (or eligible before beginning to provide care).
Common Requirements (Both NP and PA)
Ability to function autonomously while contributing as part of a team.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Critical thinking and analytical skills.
Efficient use of information systems and clinical equipment.
Ability to follow policies, procedures, and protocols.
Flexibility and dedication to team goals.
Familiarity with patient care equipment appropriate to the specialty area.
Knowledge of health care policy and factors affecting care delivery.
DEA licensure, BLS, ACLS, and ATLS certification within specified timelines.
Preferred Qualifications APP Surgical Care - Trauma and Surgical Critical Care Fellow
AGACNP-BC certification preferred for Nurse Practitioner role.
