Overview Powertrain Engineering is seeking a talented and highly motivated individual to fulfill the role as Base Calibration Technical Team Leader. The Base Calibration Technical Team Leader is responsible for leading a group of engineers, conducting performance reviews, mentoring new engineers to ensure propulsion systems function. The Base Calibration Technical Team Leader will plan resources, timelines and lead base calibration development work for a group of 5-10 engineers.

Responsibilities

Lead a team of 5-10 engineers focused on base calibration development for propulsion systems.

Plan resources and timelines for base calibration activities and coordinate day-to-day engine and powertrain dynamometer operations with technicians and laboratory support engineers.

Oversee the setup and control of all engine sensors and actuators for all engine operating conditions under both steady state and transient operation.

Ensure the team successfully completes engine hardware and systems testing and supports other teams with standardized and specialized engine test requests.

Work across different propulsion system concepts, including varying levels of electrification of the driveline.

Develop test plans and timelines and generate reports to communicate program status to the broader development and management teams.

Provide data analysis oversight to solve complex system problems related to engine performance, fuel consumption, emissions, and base engine calibration development.

Foster a collaborative, team-oriented environment; support and promote team accomplishments.

Coordinate with other teams and stakeholders to ensure alignment with program objectives and deliverables.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Mathematics, or Statistics

Minimum of 8 years combined work experience in powertrain development and/or calibration

Minimum of 3 years of prior experience leading a team

Knowledge of electrified powertrain fundamentals

Advanced understanding of gasoline engine efficiency, performance, and emissions

Data acquisition experience collecting and processing data

Experience root causing first install conformance (napkin schematics, wiring, CAN, facilities, calibration)

Outstanding problem solving and analytical skills

Strong teamwork skills and ability to work independently

Knowledge of standard and regulatory test procedures

Preferred Qualifications

Master of Science degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

Minimum of 5 years of prior experience leading a team

Experience with Design for Six Sigma (DFS) proactive engineering methods

Experience using test cell automation to conduct unattended testing

Experience in Powertrain Control solution development (powertrain control algorithms, On-board Diagnostics/ OBD, embedded software)

Strong knowledge of the propulsion system (hardware, calibration, controls)

System development experience in airflow, combustion, thermodynamics, or after treatment areas

Calibration process knowledge using design of experiments and advanced optimization techniques

Proficient in Matlab / Simulink and propulsion system control theory
