Overview
The Rooney Democracy Institute at the University of Notre Dame is seeking a postdoctoral researcher as part of the university’s Democracy Initiative for the academic year 2026-2027. Individuals selected for the postdoctoral position will have the option of renewing their appointment for a second year, conditional on satisfactory performance. Candidates with a Ph.D. in Political Science conferred by June 30, 2026, are strongly preferred. Expertise in the empirical study of religion and politics is required. The selected individual will be affiliated with the Religion and Democracy Lab under the direction of Professors David Campbell, Geoff Layman, and Michael Hoffman. The position involves both independent research and assisting faculty with their research on religion and politics. Time allocation is approximately 50% for research assistantship and collaborations with lab members, and 50% for independent research. The individual will have the opportunity to attend and present at the Rooney Democracy Institute Seminar Series, dedicated office space in the Political Science Department, a stipend of $5,000 per year for research expenses, and will be part of a cohort of visiting researchers. The salary range for this position is $56,484-$65,640. Responsibilities
Carry out independent research related to religion and politics. Assist faculty in research projects within the Religion and Democracy Lab. Collaborate with lab members and participate in related seminars and activities. Qualifications
