GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Resident Assistant monitors the safety and well-being of all Safe Haven residents while they are on site. The Resident Assistant ensures that residents comply with program guidelines, assists residents in their daily living activities, and documents all services provided. The Resident Assistant is also responsible for reporting all potential and actual crisis situations to their supervisor, clinical support staff (partner agency), and/or appropriate emergency services (law enforcement, paramedics, firefighters, etc.). ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Conduct the initial intake utilizing the appropriate documentation and filing systems as directed by the Program Manager. Assist residents in meeting their basic needs, including personal hygiene, social interaction, laundry, mail, etc., as part of the service team. Document resident contacts through electronic files (Clarity and/or Welligent) regarding case plan goals, activities/behaviors, and supportive services rendered. Monitor, evaluate, and record resident progress in both hard and soft copy formats concerning case plan goals, activities/behaviors, units of service rendered, stages of change, and other statistical/narrative information. Participate in safety inspections, fire drills, night bed counts, inventory, and other operational tasks as assigned by the Program Manager. Assist in evaluating resident functioning of independent living skills through unit inspections, chore compliance, and basic needs identification. Coordinate with case management to refer residents to applicable resources for achieving case plan goals, including providing directions, reminders, and helping locate community resources. Facilitate respectful communication among residents and between residents and staff, modeling team collaboration. Attend staff meetings to plan and coordinate resident and management objectives as an active team member. Maintain confidentiality by securing written resident information and refraining from discussing confidential matters inappropriately. Support staff in routine program operations, rule enforcement, and supporting resident progress toward goals. Perform other duties as assigned. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE / LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS: High school diploma/GED required. Associate Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related field preferred. Registered or Certified SUD Counselor preferred. Peer Support Specialist Certification preferred. Minimum of one-year experience in a residential setting, preferably with people with SUD, mental illness, or experiencing homelessness. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Flexibility with a 24-hour schedule, including second and overnight shifts, holidays, and weekends. Comfort interacting with resistant residents, including those not in touch with reality, and addressing difficult conversations. Adherence to all relevant policies, procedures, laws, and ethical standards. Ability to work in a loud, chaotic environment with multiple stories and no private office. Must follow dress code promoting safety and professionalism. Ability to work without judgment with individuals in various stages of recovery or relapse. Exposure to cleaning chemicals; applicants should be free of respiratory or allergic conditions exacerbated by such products. Ability to perform visual and focus-related tasks, interpret data, analyze situations, and handle multiple tasks. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Criminal background check, Live Scan fingerprinting, and pre-employment drug screening. Valid California driver’s license and insurance. Medical clearance for TB. CPR certification or willingness to obtain on the job. Freeness from federal debarment.
