Summary/Objective: Promotes the company mission statement by working with the project manager to coordinate planning, scheduling, and construction of projects. Objectives include meeting the owners, designers, and Harper’s safety, schedule, budget, and quality goals. Assigned project responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Safety, quality, and production. May work on standalone projects or under the direction of a site superintendent on a multi-facet project.
Essential Functions
Examine and inspect work progress, equipment, and construction sites to verify safety and ensure that specifications are met.
Promote and enforce safety first and foremost. Look for potential safety issues on the project. Stay current on safe work practices and OSHA standards. Hold all employees accountable for practicing and enforcing safety. Ensure Pre-Task Planning sheets are completed daily and signed for safety.
Be the foremost technical authority on the project.
Plan, schedule, and coordinate with Trade Partners. Coordinate efforts with Foreman and Crew. Review project plans and specifications to verify accuracy and identify new developments.
Work with the project team to develop a project schedule. Manage project equipment needs and monitor rental. Understand and utilize all internal resources available. Clearly communicate project goals and expectations to the workforce.
Perform take-offs of formwork and ensure form materials are available on site when needed.
Order small tools and expendables (e.g., nails, saws, drills, wall ties) in advance to ensure availability.
Monitor job progress and maintain good relations with the owner.
Administer company policies and procedures.
Maintain a high level of professional ethics and demand the same of all employees.
Handle project labor requirements, interview, and recommend personnel for hire as needed.
Motivate the workforce, reward good performance, and address mediocre work appropriately.
Initiate feedback conversations, discuss workers’ future and goals, train employees, and handle concerns and conflicts.
Collaborate with supervisory, engineering personnel, inspectors, and suppliers to resolve construction issues and improve methods.
Inspect ongoing work for quality and ensure correct initial completion.
Supervisory responsibilities include overseeing Trade Partners, consultants, vendors, and Assistant Superintendents.
Competencies
Scheduling: Understand material delivery dates and project timelines.
Design conflicts resolution: Communicate effectively with Trade Partners and Engineers, and know when to RFI issues.
Trade Partner coordination: Lead meetings, set agendas, and manage critical issues.
Attend all OAC meetings, contribute to agendas, and facilitate effective discussions.
Conflict resolution: Solve clashes in building systems without compromising design.
Develop and manage QAQC programs.
Supervise projects utilizing BIM technologies, coordinate 3D designs, and utilize software like Navisworks.
Certifications: OSHA 30 certified.
Safety leadership: Proven track record of fostering a strong safety culture.
Experience: Building from the ground up on multiple projects as a Superintendent.
Construction knowledge: Understand various scopes of work and building methods.
Relationship building: Communicate effectively with city, local agencies, and utility reps.
Technical understanding: Read and interpret plans and specifications.
Leadership: Lead teams including Harper personnel and trade partners.
Flexibility, attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and strong communication abilities.
Supervisory Responsibilities Supervise all Trade Partners, consultants, vendors, and ensure adequate manpower. Monitor project security personnel and supervise all Assistant Superintendents.
Work Environment Exposure to various conditions including wet/humid environments, mechanical parts, heights, fumes, weather extremes, chemicals, electrical risks, and noise. Safety protocols must be followed at all times.
Physical Demands
Perform physical tasks such as walking, climbing, stooping, bending, lifting, and inspecting over varied terrain.
Driving a company vehicle is required with a valid license and safe driving record.
Travel Travel between job sites and offices with minimal overnight or weekend travel.
Education and Experience
Minimum 4 years of jobsite supervision experience, including roles as assistant superintendent or foreman.
Experience with Harper GC is a plus.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Project, Outlook) preferred.
