General Statement:

A competent

Social Studies Teacher

understands growth and development, demonstrates knowledge of the curriculum, and helps students develop positive self-concepts. The teacher stimulates independence, assesses student needs, and plans instruction to meet objectives, including those for exceptional students. Effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues, along with the use of appropriate techniques and materials, fosters a positive learning environment. The teacher also commits to professional growth and community involvement. Major Responsibilities:

Demonstrates skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. Possesses knowledge of the subject matter. Understands human growth and development in relation to teaching. Knows the American public school system. Plans and implements instructional strategies. Communicates effectively with students. Supports the development of positive self-concepts. Encourages student independence. Organizes time, space, and materials efficiently. Assesses student needs and progress. Meets the needs of exceptional students. Creates a positive learning environment. Fulfills professional responsibilities. Engages with parents and the community for support. Qualifications:

Valid Connecticut teacher certificate in 026-History & Social Studies, 7-12, or 226-History & Social Studies, Middle School, 4–8. Proven excellence in teaching the relevant subject and level. Ability to work cooperatively with staff and administrators. Strong organizational skills and task completion. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of relevant technology tools and systems. Certification:

This position requires certification from the Connecticut State Department of Education. Candidates without current certification but holding a Bachelor's degree and 12 credits in the content area may be eligible for Long-Term Substitute Authorization. Compensation:
