Cleveland Lutheran High School Association Finance Director
The CLHSA Finance Director, reporting directly to the CLHSA Superintendent, develops, implements, and maintains the financial functions of the Cleveland Lutheran High School Association. The CLHSA Finance Director is responsible for the accounting and financial reporting functions of the organization and for ensuring that the fiscal practices of the CLHSA align with the ministry and vision of the organization. The CLHSA Finance Director will be the direct liaison for external audits, ensuring that all processes related to external audits are completed faithfully and efficiently. The CLHSA Finance Director will direct financial processes at CLHSA schools and manage both the Payroll & Accounts Payable Manager and the Staff Accountant.
Responsibilities
Direct and monitor all financial activity of the organization
Manage, monitor, and report organization cash flow
Reconcile all general ledger accounts monthly
Reconcile all bank and investment statements monthly
Reconcile Raiser’s Edge entries with Financial Edge monthly
Reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable aging reports to trial balances monthly
Ensure proper accounting of all fixed assets and depreciation
Work with Tuition Managers to account for and reconcile tuition receivables monthly
Work with school administration to properly account for and deposit non-tuition revenue
Work with CLHSA Development Director to reconcile promises to give with pledges receivable
Prepare monthly reports including school P&Ls, Balance Sheets, Debt Analysis, and Cash Flow models
Manage transfers between CLHSA accounts and proper journal entries associated with these transfers
Oversee and prepare budget development, review, and forecasting of future budgets
Provide financial input for enrollment and staffing projections
Manage CLHSA relationship with banking partners and financial institutions
Oversee and prepare external audits to ensure accuracy of information and strength of internal controls
Establish internal work processes for CLHSA Financial Department and monitor their progress
Report on financial matters at Operating Board, Directors, CLEEF, Finance Committee, and Delegates meetings
Assure current practices are employed in the Finance Department that demonstrate cost benefits to the organization
Prepare and enter all deposits and journal entries into Financial Edge
Manage the risk management program, including insurance plans and claims administration
Strategically forecast financial trends by using data analysis
Prepare checks to be paid out of restricted accounts and facilitate payment under Capital Campaigns / Projects
Support the Administrative team in understanding, managing, and reporting their budgets and financial statements
Ensure that the CLHSA is current on not-for-profit accounting rules, guidelines, and procedures
Oversee and direct the work of the Payroll & Accounts Payable Manager as well as the Staff Accountant
Qualifications
Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or related field; Master’s Degree preferred
While not required, a valid CPA license is strongly preferred
7+ years of experience
Deep understanding of and commitment to Christian education and the mission and theology of the CLHSA
Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, Financial/Raiser’s Edge and other business software
Knowledgeable in financial forecasting, not-for-profit accounting principles, data analysis, and bookkeeping
Excellent communication skills
Ability to prioritize among many projects, work in a team, and think analytically
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships
