Assistant/Associate Research Professor of Emergency Medicine
The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Virginia invites applications for a tenure ineligible faculty research position for clinical research and data analysis. The department is led by Andrew E. Muck, MD, MBA, and includes adult care, pediatric care, and active air and ground transport programs. There is an established emergency medicine residency program and fellowships in Medical Toxicology, EMS, Cardiovascular Emergencies, Ultrasound, Research, Administration, Global Health, and Education. The UVA Health System is a 700-bed tertiary care and Level 1 trauma center with an annual ED census of 75,000 located in Charlottesville, Virginia.
The department seeks candidates focused on providing strategic input, support, and leadership to research teams within the Department of Emergency Medicine and in collaboration with other teams, departments, organizations, and agencies. This position will engage with department leadership, physicians, and others at various professional levels to negotiate, influence, and consult on projects, protocol standards, and research processing and study techniques and standards. The position is expected to be a leader within the research team and will communicate findings, new research, and methodologies that improve data functionality and research processes.
The position will take primary leadership in preparation of research outcome reports, clinical research application documentation, grant applications, abstracts, biosketch reviews, poster and presentation reviews, and publication and documentation needs. It will involve speaking with individuals and presenting to large groups, requiring comfortable and professional communication in those settings.
Responsibilities
Provide strategic input, support, and leadership to research teams within the Department of Emergency Medicine and in collaboration with external teams and agencies.
Engage with department leadership and other stakeholders to negotiate, influence, and consult on research projects, standards, and processes.
Lead preparation of research outcome reports, clinical research documentation, grant applications, abstracts, biosketch reviews, posters, and publications.
Present findings and research designs to department leadership and in larger group settings; contribute to data functionality improvements and research methodologies.
Qualifications
Ph.D. or other terminal doctorate-level degree eligible for appointment to the University of Virginia faculty. Background in healthcare administration, data sciences, life sciences, or related areas encouraged.
Demonstrated recent applicable research in areas engaging emergency medicine such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, trauma biomechanics, automotive safety, epidemiology, toxicology, cardiovascular emergencies, international medical activities, nursing, or related fields. Research may be basic, clinical, or translational.
Experience in grant writing, scientific writing, data analysis, and data interpretation. Past success with NIH or external funding is encouraged.
