Adjunct Instructor – Sociology Are you passionate about sharing your knowledge of Sociology and making a difference in students’ lives? Indian River State College is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Adjunct Instructor to join our team. Job Description Under general direction, this position is responsible for maintaining a successful program. Key duties include effective classroom management, accurate student record-keeping, and preparing, instructing, and grading coursework. Assign final grades and maintain regular office hours to meet with students. This role is crucial in fostering student success, advancing program goals, and supporting a professional learning environment.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Instruct assigned classes and grade all quizzes, tests, and written assignments.

Assign final grades and provide grade justification sheets.

Maintain regular office hours to meet with students.

Ensure a safe and effective classroom environment.

Participate in department, division, and general adjunct faculty meetings.

Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

Master’s degree in Sociology from a regionally accredited institution, or a Master’s degree with at least eighteen (18) graduate hours in Sociology from a regionally accredited institution.

Doctorate in Sociology from a regionally accredited institution preferred.

Minimum two (2) years of teaching experience in a post-secondary institution, preferred.

Excellent communication skills both oral and written.

Proven teaching skills with the ability to convey basic concepts and theories in a practical and comprehensible way.

Ability to recognize and to respond to students from culturally diverse backgrounds, as well as a willingness to make students active partners in the teaching/learning process.

Computer literacy and experience using computers in the classroom, with a willingness to apply technology and innovative approaches to teaching.

All instructors must meet the appropriate credentialing requirements for the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools (SACS).

Physical Demands: This position requires the ability to sit and stand for extended periods, present oral lectures/demonstrations, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. Some lifting of equipment may be required. Manual dexterity to operate standard office machines is also necessary. IRSC expects employees to follow proper safety standards.
