School District U-46 Reports To: Executive Director of Schools - Elementary Calendar Days: 260
Overview / Function
U-46 will restructure Illinois Park Elementary School in Elgin in the fall of 2026. The school will transition from an Early Learning Center to a PreK–5 school for the 2026–2027 school year, serving students from the surrounding attendance boundary. District administration anticipates this position will begin July 1, 2026. The principal will provide visionary leadership and lead the hiring, establishment, and operation of the PreK–5 school, and will be actively involved in both the operational and instructional aspects of opening the new building. The Elementary School Principal will provide instructional leadership and organizational management/supervision to support the educational development of each student in alignment with national, state, and local educational goals and requirements.
Responsibilities
Provide instructional leadership and professional development for staff to support curriculum and instructional goals.
Lead the administration of programs and ongoing improvement of instruction with standards-based fidelity.
Develop and implement in-service activities for staff; ensure district-supported common assessments are provided and entered into the student information system.
Maintain effective relationships and regular communication with parents, parent groups, and the community.
Oversee staff evaluation, curriculum development, personnel management, emergency procedures, and facility operations.
Direct planning for instruction, student registration, and building schedules; manage school operations within district policies.
Supervise enrollment processes and develop student transition plans where applicable.
Ensure safety, conduct, and discipline in alignment with the district’s policies and the Student Code of Conduct; coordinate district MTSS interventions.
Collaborate with committees to ensure teacher/staff input in school processes.
Engage with the community to solicit input and maintain public relations responsibilities.
Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Education.
Professional Educator License with General Administrator or Principal endorsement.
Performance Evaluator Qualification (Teacher & Principal required).
Experience / Knowledge
Five (5) years of teaching experience and two years of administrative experience and/or large-scale instructional change projects (principalship preferred).
Experience using formative assessment and data to guide instruction and supports.
Experience collaborating with varied groups and strong communication skills.
Extensive knowledge of learning theory, curriculum development, and instructional program management.
Thorough knowledge of school code, state and federal laws, and district policies.
Ability to plan and evaluate strategies for improving instruction; experience serving culturally and linguistically diverse students.
Financial & Operations
Responsible for all expenditures related to the approved school budget.
Coordinate with Plant Operations to assess building needs and submit recommendations.
Student Safety & Culture
Establishes rules and processes for student behavior; enforces the Student Code of Conduct.
Manages site security and safety; coordinates MTSS interventions and student activities beyond regular hours.
Terms of Employment
12-month work year (260 days).
Salary range: $118,483.00 – $177,725.00; typical hiring between minimum and midpoint ($148,104.00).
