Overview
The Department of Art & Art History invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Studio Art in Printmaking. This is a full-time, nine-month position (24 workload hours: 18 teaching hours; 6 research/creative activity hours) on a contract to begin in August 2026. We are a NASAD-accredited, BA-granting, fine arts program within a Christian liberal arts college. Responsibilities
Teach all levels of printmaking to undergraduate Studio Art majors and non-majors. Contribute to the college’s general education curriculum, which may include First Year Seminars and the department’s senior capstone course on a rotating basis. Engage in rotating department leadership as part of tenure-track duties. Guide students through traditional printmaking processes toward innovative and experimental thinking that engages contemporary discourse; integrate art theory in advanced studio courses. Embrace interdisciplinary explorations and promote student excellence within a liberal arts context. Qualifications
Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art with a concentration in printmaking. Ability to teach studio art within the context of an undergraduate Christian Liberal Arts College. Active studio practice with a vibrant exhibition record. Engagement with global perspectives that embraces diversity and inclusion through studio practice, teaching, or service. Proficiency in printing techniques including intaglio, relief, screen printing, plate lithography, and digital processes. About the Department and Facilities
The Department of Art and Art History features a well-equipped print shop with multiple presses, an etching room, a screen printing darkroom, and a large print collection available for teaching. Hope College is located about 2.5 hours from Detroit and Chicago, with opportunities for professional development support and summer research funding. Application and Conditions
