The Physics Department at Grand Valley State University invites applications for an

Assistant Professor

to begin Fall 2026. Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field, with a background in experimental physics. The successful candidate will have a commitment to undergraduate education and a research program with potential to involve undergraduate students in experimental or related work. The candidate must be able to engage effectively with students, colleagues, and community members with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Required Qualifications and Education

Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field. Current ABD candidates will be considered for a two-year contract with the provision that the Ph.D. must be completed by December 2027. Potential for successful college-level teaching in physics and active research that involves undergraduate students. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with others respectfully. Preferred Qualifications and Education

Research in experimental physics or a closely related area. Demonstrated ability to develop undergraduate labs in experimental physics. Responsibilities

Tenure-line faculty are typically hired on nine-month contracts with a nine-contact hour teaching load per semester. They are also expected to engage in scholarship, service, and a significant focus activity (equivalent to three credit hours of additional responsibilities in teaching, scholarly/creative activity, and/or service) depending on the candidates interests and department needs. Candidates are expected to develop a research program that may involve undergraduate students. Starting Salary and Benefits

Minimum Starting Salary: $79,273; commensurate with experience.
