Treatment, Storage & Disposal Facilities Compliance Inspector (Environmental Specialist 3, 4, or 5) – within the Nuclear Waste Program at the Washington State Department of Ecology. Location: Richland Field Office in Richland, WA. Upon hire, you must live within a commutable distance from the duty station. Schedule: This position is eligible for telework and flexible schedule options; field work is required for field surveys. Telework may apply to most office work with some in-person meetings. Schedules are subject to change. Duties

Serve as program expert for the Hanford closure/post-closure Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facilities (TSDFs). Provide guidance on inspections for groundwater monitoring requirements during closure and post-closure. Develop inspection scope by analyzing facility compliance history, reviewing permit conditions, and consulting with project and permit staff. Conduct field inspections, including in-briefing, facility walkthroughs, personnel interviews, and records reviews. Develop and prepare final inspection reports following standardized processes. Follow up on observations and violations by engaging with permittee representatives until resolved or enforcement is recommended and supported as directed by management. Qualifications

This position offers an in-training plan and may be filled at Environmental Specialist 3, 4, or 5 level depending on qualifications. Progression to ES5 is possible from ES3/ES4 within a specified time period. Required Qualifications: Environmental Specialist 3 (In-Training) Pay Range 53, $4,882 - $6,576 monthly. Six total years of combined experience and education; environmentally based work or related duties with one or more of the following: Technical environmental experience – understanding state or federal regulations; ability to follow policies and objectives. Demonstrated problem-solving, prioritization, data evaluation, and following established research procedures. Education:

Degree in environmental, physical, or natural sciences; environmental planning or related discipline. Examples of How to Qualify: 6 years of experience; or 5 years plus 30–59 semester or 45–89 quarter college credits; or 4 years plus 60–89 semester or 90–134 quarter credits (Associate’s); or 3 years plus 90–119 semester or 135–179 quarter credits; or 2 years plus a Bachelor’s degree; or a Master’s degree or higher. Environmental Specialist 4 (In-Training) Pay Range 59, $5,666 - $7,622 monthly. Nine total years of combined experience and education; focus on environmental work, including: Technical environmental experience related to TSDFs and dangerous waste regulations; project management and teamwork with internal/external partners. Qualifications details continued for ES4 and ES5, including examples of how to qualify (years of experience and education combinations) and required/desired competencies. This section also covers special requirements for advancement and level-specific criteria. Environmental Specialist 5 (Senior/Goal Class) Pay Range 63, $6,259 - $8,415 monthly. Ten total years of combined experience and education; advanced expertise in regulatory compliance, project management, and independent decision-making related to TSDFs. Special Requirements/Conditions Of Employment: Proof of US Citizenship and a Social Security Number is required for entry into inspected facilities. Must meet USDOE badge requirements for the Hanford Site. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Must complete HAZWOPER training within six months and annual 8-hour refresher. Desired Qualifications:
