IFF . Job Summary: Participate in the development and use of technologies that provide IFF with new opportunities for profitable growth. In charge of development and execution of the microscopic and material characterization techniques to assist customers with effective scientific evidences to address their needs. Translate observations into actionable research activities for project progression. Primary activities include planning and execution of complex research projects obtaining mechanistic understanding of key flavor and fragrance delivery systems and addressing performance issues of IFF products using IR, Raman, Fluorescent Spectroscopy, thermal analyzers and other characterization techniques. This role also requires strong project management skills including setting priorities, developing technical approaches, creating methods and processes to support sample/prototype preparation for analysis, execution of research plan, interpretation of data, development of next steps and providing guidance to junior scientists. A legacy of technical creativity and demonstrated ability to coordinate projects of modest size is expected. This position will require development of a medium level of understanding of advanced materials characterization techniques. Good knowledge of controlled release systems is preferred. Job Responsibilities: Carries out independent research, communicating key advancements to other scientists, project leaders, and stakeholders. Develops and implements new value-creating technologies, products, and/or applications to address business growth opportunities. Identifies and integrates various technologies from outside and inside the organization to pursue high value opportunities for our production asset or new products. Identifies technology gaps and provides innovative ideas that fill those gaps. Acts as functional representative on project team/manage projects. Identifies alternative approaches to address new and existing challenges. Consults for customer opportunities, working with business counterparts to support customers. Works seamlessly with business and operations for handing over new R&D project launches. Mentors associates and collaborates in the R&D organization. Leads specific technical segments and takes the initiative to assume responsibility for highly challenging technical projects achieving solutions to complex problems. Working independently and seeks increased responsibility and demonstrates consistent productivity. Job Requirements: Essential: Ph.D. in Material Science or related discipline and a minimum of 5 years industrial research experience. (MS degree with 10 years or BS degree with 15 years equivalent) Demonstrated advanced technical knowledge and proven conceptual ability. Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional projects of small size and scope. Demonstrated ability to supervise lower level technical professionals. Preferred: Body of work establishes this individual as subject matter expert within R&D. Able to provide expert consultation to IFF colleagues and customers.
