Overview

Empire State University is currently seeking an Assistant Professor of Data Science to join the Department of Computer Science and Technology (CS&T) in the College of Arts and Sciences. The successful candidate will develop and teach online courses, independent studies, and study groups in their area of expertise, and serve learners across New York State, nationally, and worldwide. Responsibilities include teaching and mentoring (advising) students from diverse backgrounds and disciplines and guiding mentees as they pursue individualized degree programs. The candidate will collaborate with CS&T and Mathematics colleagues to develop and support new undergraduate and graduate academic programs in Data Science. The program will prepare students for jobs in new and emerging fields, enabling them to gain proficiency and hands-on competencies in information computing, optimization, data analysis and management, applied mathematics and statistics, ethics, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills. Candidates with curriculum development or relevant industry experience are encouraged to apply. Base pay range:

$87,000.00/yr - $95,000.00/yr Rank/Salary:

Tenure-track, assistant/associate professor, salary range from $87,000 to $95,000, appointment and salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. Required Qualifications

An earned doctorate from a regionally accredited U.S. university or comparable non-U.S. university in Data Science, Business and Data Analytics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related field at the time of appointment. College or university level teaching experience. Experience with supporting diverse populations. Ability to work in a distributed faculty environment. Ability to teach and develop courses. An active scholarly agenda. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated knowledge of adult teaching and learning. Experience with teaching and mentoring in online learning environments. Experience with academic program development. Bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and English. Special Information

Occasional travel will be required to fulfill university-wide obligations, including biannual travel to Saratoga Springs, New York. Office hours will vary in accordance with student needs. Periodic evening and weekend engagement will also be required. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. VISA sponsorship is not available for this position.
