The Department of History at the University of Florida, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-accruing position at the rank of assistant professor, beginning August 16, 2026, for a historian of Latin America with a focus on Brazil in the long nineteenth century (1750-1930).
The ideal hire should be able to contribute to the History Department's intellectual growth and emphasis on interdisciplinary and collaborative research. Areas of specialization might include abolition, Indigenous histories, health and medicine, labor, culture, or diaspora.
The appointee will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching a diverse body of undergraduate and graduate students in Gainesville, Florida, and maintain a robust research and publishing agenda commensurate with a Research 1 institution.
Teaching responsibilities include introductory, upper-division, and graduate courses in Brazilian history. Equally important is the ability to contribute effectively to the department's graduate program: mentoring graduate students, offering graduate seminars, and chairing and serving on graduate committees.
Applicants will have a Ph.D. in History or a related field by August 15, 2026. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and the compensation includes a full benefits package.
