Overview
We are seeking an experienced individual to join our team and support the CDS Marketing & Communications team, with a focus on member engagement. Position Overview: The Manager, Marketing & Membership will be a collaborative and strategically minded individual that will lead initiatives that deepen connections and participation across our membership. This role is a key driver in elevating member engagement, supporting CDS’ nine (9) local Branches, and Committee activity, and delivering consistent, member-focused communications. A successful candidate will bring strong project management skills, a creative approach to marketing, and a passion for creating meaningful member experiences. Key Responsibilities
Member, Branch & Committee Engagement:
Serve as the primary point of contact for Branch leadership and Committee Chairs to support communications, planning, and engagement efforts. Create engagement strategies that highlight Branch events, encourage attendance, and support local leadership goals. Develop toolkits, templates, and promotional materials to empower Branches and Committees in their outreach efforts. Develop and implement strategies to improve member engagement, recruitment and retention. Coordinate volunteer recognition efforts, award programs and support the onboarding and orientation of new committee members. Optimize the member journey; including onboarding, personalized guidance and troubleshooting across all member marketing touchpoints. Stay informed about member engagement best practices. Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams to enhance the continuity and effectiveness of the member experience. Project Management & Campaign Coordination:
Oversee marketing and engagement campaigns from planning through execution, managing timelines, assets, and stakeholder input. Developing project plans with clear timelines and deliverables, and managing projects to stay on time and within budget. Maintain detailed project calendars and ensure deliverables are met across multiple teams and initiatives. Track results and adjust strategies to improve future engagement efforts. Coordinate content approvals, email lists, branch communications, and committee messaging calendars. Marketing & Messaging Strategy: Plan and implement messaging strategies to promote member benefits, volunteer opportunities, and organizational events. Collaborate across departments to ensure consistent messaging and branding across all communications. Support promotional needs for events, including digital content and print materials. Assist in the creation and editing of copy for email, web, and printed communications. Digital Communications: Create and manage segmented email campaigns that support both CDS-wide and branch-level engagement goals. Develop and maintain content calendars for branches and committees. Support committees and branches in sharing relevant content and news across digital channels. Monitor analytics and performance of digital content, using insights to improve reach and relevance. Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with marketing, communications, membership, and leadership teams to align content strategy with organizational priorities. Serve as a key point of contact for web and publication-related questions and initiatives. Organizational Responsibilities Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the marketing team. Lead in a manner that is consistent with the association’s culture statement and emphasizes the mission, vision, and values of the organization. Display a high level of accountability, taking responsibility for individual actions and the impact on the organization. View oneself as a reflection of the organization by following through on commitments and accepting ownership. Performs additional related duties as required or assigned. Required Qualifications and Skills: Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Nonprofit Management, or a related field. 5+ years of experience in member engagement, marketing, or nonprofit program coordination. Demonstrated experience managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders and tight timelines. Exceptional project management, organizational, and communication skills. Comfortable working with volunteers and building strong collaborative relationships. Comfortable juggling multiple priorities with competing deadlines. Experience managing budgets and vendor contracts. Ability to work effectively in collaboration with various internal teams and work independently. Ability to interface with staff, Boards, and external relationships in a professional manner. Comfortable with public speaking and large groups. Team-oriented. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in nonprofits, associations, or member-driven organizations. Familiarity with CRM systems, email marketing platforms, and project management tools (e.g., Asana, Trello, Monday.com). Knowledge of member engagement best practices and event promotion strategies. Ability to manage multiple priorities and pivot quickly in a fast-paced environment. Comfort working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with shifting priorities. Physical Demands / Environment Nature of work requires an ability to operate standard business office equipment. Requires ability to communicate verbally and in writing in an exchange of information; collect, compile, and prepare work documents; set-up and maintain work files. Use of the computer, with repetitive motion, is approximately 90%. Majority of work is performed in a general office environment. Occasional local travel around the Chicagoland area will be required.
