Overview
Job Title: Samoan In-Person Interpreter (IPI) Location: Onsite servicing King County Job Type: Independent Contractor Position Overview: The Samoan In-Person Interpreter is responsible for facilitating onsite communication for Limited English Proficient (LEP) clients and the practitioners that serve them in a variety of settings. This contract position is flexible and offers opportunities to expand your interpreting business with access to many sessions per day. Responsibilities
Provide effective onsite interpreting sessions in a professional manner. Maintain a professional appearance and behavior, including punctuality and preparedness for sessions. Adapt quickly to new and changing situations. Adhere to interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to interpreting context. Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and working in a diverse environment. Respect LEP clients, their culture, dialect, beliefs, and preferences. Display strong aptitude and passion for customer service and interpreting. Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions. Render exact concepts and meanings according to interpreter protocol. Qualifications
Fluent with strong verbal communication in both Samoan and English (Samoan to English and vice versa). Excellent listening and retention skills to maintain high accuracy during interpretation. Successful completion of a proficiency assessment or have a national certification. Extensive knowledge of the code of ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI and NCIHC). Must be at least 18 years of age. Preferred Qualifications
Ability to read and write in the requested languages. Degree or certifications in interpreting practices. National Medical Interpreter Certification by CCHI, NBCMI, or DSHS. Accredited medical interpreting training (e.g., ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural training, 40-hour accredited medical courses).
