Department of Mathematical Sciences at Montana Tech announces a tenure-track opening for an Assistant Professor in the field of Statistics, Mathematics, or Data Science with experience and/or research interests in data science. Montana Technological University offers degrees in the sciences and engineering, and the department provides undergraduate majors in Mathematics (including applied mathematics and statistics) and Data Science. The primary duties are to teach courses in statistics, mathematics, and data science, with a normal teaching load of 9 credits per semester. Additional responsibilities include maintaining an active scholarly agenda, advising Statistics, Mathematics, and Data Science majors, overseeing student research projects, and participating in curriculum redesign. Duties:
Teach 9 credits per semester of statistics, mathematics, and/or data science courses. Additional responsibilities may include advising data science, statistics, or mathematics majors, overseeing student projects, and participating in curriculum redesign.
Required Qualifications: PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, or Data Science awarded by August 2025 Ability to teach a wide variety of mathematics and statistics courses within the current curriculum Effective oral and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications: Previous college-level teaching experience in mathematics, statistics, and/or data science Evidence of effective teaching Experience and/or expertise with data visualization, simulation, and/or statistical methods that support current Data Science course offerings Ability to teach courses using Python and R Demonstrated research expertise in data science areas such as machine/deep learning, big data mining and analytics, visualizing and communicating data, data-driven modeling and prediction, rich media data processing, database systems for analytics, quantitative social science, statistical learning, topological data analysis
