Paraeducator – Special Education - Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) & Specialized Programs (e.g., CORE, PreK, Therapeutic) Program Details:
This program serves students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, focusing on behavior, social skills, and learning support using ABA methodology with BCBA supervision. Classrooms typically have one teacher and four paraeducators, with instruction in small groups and individual settings. Related services may include speech therapy, occupational therapy, and others. Purpose:
To support students' independence and autonomy as part of the student support team, following IEP goals and objectives. Supervision:
Supervised by certified staff and/or appropriate administrator. Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Support students in developing independence, using strategies to gradually transfer responsibilities. Assist in reinforcing behavior and communication skills under supervision. Implement ABA strategies, sensory diets, and activity schedules. Record student achievements and participate in documentation of health-based services. Assist with equipment, assistive technology, and daily living needs. Support during emergency drills, field trips, and other activities. Implement IEP goals, maintain confidentiality, and serve as a substitute teacher support. Assist with health care plans and alert staff to student needs. Administrative Duties:
Supervise students during non-classroom activities. Participate in professional development. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Willingness to learn and adapt. Effective communication skills. Ability to follow instructions and support students with IEPs. Basic proficiency in reading, math, and English. Physical capacity to perform job functions, including lifting and restraining students if necessary. Good judgment, patience, and confidentiality. Minimum Qualifications:
Must meet ESSA requirements: pass ParaPro, hold an Associate’s Degree, or have 60 college credits. Willing to acquire skills for supporting students with special needs, including RBT training and behavioral strategies. Experience working with children preferred. Proficiency with computer applications. Working Conditions:
Indoor and outdoor settings, supporting students with various disabilities, including physical assistance and behavioral support. Physical Demands:
Ability to lift at least 40 pounds, assist with transfers, and respond to emergency situations. Additional Details:
Employee Group: Paraeducators of Stamford Association Work Year: As per Bargaining Agreement Compensation: $26,014 - $43,867 annually, based on education and experience. Application Procedure: Online application required. Internal applicants should upload a cover letter and resume.
