Overview

The Department of English at Louisiana State University (LSU) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Linguistics, beginning in August 2026. Located in Baton Rouge, LSU is the flagship land-grant institution in Louisiana and a Research 1 (R1) University. We support research and teaching in a broad range of fields and many interdisciplinary programs. Requirements

Ph.D. in Linguistics, or in a related field by the time the position begins; record of publication or strong promise of future scholarly achievement. Preference will be given to candidates who can teach and direct research in sociolinguistics or language acquisition. We especially welcome applicants who bring creative and forward-looking approaches to the study of language in society (i.e., innovative methodologies, digital technologies), or who can contribute to Departmental strengths in regional studies (the U.S. South, Mississippi Delta, the Caribbeans, the Gulf). Responsibilities

Teaching : Teaching load is 2/2, primarily undergraduate courses (e.g., Descriptive English Grammar, Dialects of English, Introduction to Linguistics, Topics in Language Studies) and graduate seminars in the area of faculty specialization. The hiree will have the opportunity to design new courses and collaborate with existing interdisciplinary programs and initiatives. Research : Maintain an active scholarly profile on par with the expectations of an R1 institution. The College provides support for research and faculty development. Qualifications
