Position is paid based on student participation numbers and compensated by way of a seasonal stipend. Pro rated stipends may be awarded for time worked if hired after the start date.
Overview of Position Responsibilities include coaching the designated sport under the direction of the Head Coach, assisting with the Varsity team, coaching the JV (2nd) and/or JVC (3rd) team, and providing guidance and instruction to enhance students' personal, physical, and social growth. This position may be held in addition to a classroom teaching or other work assignment.
Position reports to: Building Principal/Athletic Administrator and to Building Athletic Director. Receives direction from Head Coach.
Responsibilities
Prepare student-athletes mentally and physically for athletic competition.
Enhance student athletes' personal, physical and social growth in a culturally diverse environment.
Plan and supervise scheduled workouts and games for the assigned team.
Instruct participants in the skills and techniques of the sport.
Keep abreast of current sport knowledge and coaching techniques by attending clinics and reviewing related literature.
Maintain current knowledge of WIAA and Metro rules, regulations and bylaws.
Attend Varsity contests as requested and provide support for the Head Coach in decision making and management of assigned sports events.
Assist the Head Coach in management of District-owned equipment, maintenance of records, issuing athletic awards and other functions related to promotion and management of the sport program.
Attend meetings and clinics as required by the Athletic Department, including preseason league meetings and annual WIAA rule clinics as applicable.
Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient functioning of the work unit.

Basic rules, strategies, coaching techniques and skills of the designated sport
Effective behavior management techniques, team dynamics and group learning
Skills
Coaching and motivating athletes
Effective communication, organizing activities and giving instructions
Ability
Relate to students, staff, administration and the public in a multi-ethnic environment
Be fair and consistent when working with students
Maintain accurate records and supervise fundraising activities
Typical Qualifications Education Must be a high school graduate or have completed a GED program.
Years of Experience Minimum of one year of coaching and/or participation in the designated sport; successful completion of WIAA Coaches Requirements; must be at least 19 years of age.
Certificates & Licenses Valid State of Washington Driver's License.
Preferred Valid Washington State Teacher's Certificate.
Continuing Education/Training Valid "hands on" First Aid and CPR Certification; SPS Adult Sexual Misconduct Class.
