Overview
Building Construction in the Myers-Lawson School of Construction at Virginia Tech is seeking applications for a tenure-track Associate or Full Professor of Building Construction with expertise in building systems, building physics, and/or building performance. The position is effective August 2026. We seek candidates motivated to contribute to a collegial, interdisciplinary community with a strong tradition of both fundamental and applied research that aligns with Virginia Tech initiatives on Industrialized Construction and Smart Construction. Potential research foci include building system integration, building physics modeling and in-situ assessment, building performance (embodied-carbon, energy, durability, and life-cycle analysis), and human interactions with the built environment (Indoor Environmental Quality and Human-building Interaction). The School is home to 30 faculty members and over 600 undergraduate and 50 graduate students. Degree programs include: 1) Bachelor of Science in Building Construction; 2) Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering and Management; 3) Master of Science in Building Construction Science and Management; 4) Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Design and Planning. Virginia Tech is a public land‑grant university committed to teaching, research, and outreach to Virginia and beyond, with a mission to serve and make a positive social impact through infrastructure and building. Location: Virginia Tech main campus in Blacksburg, Virginia, with facilities Bishop-Favrao Hall and Hitt Hall. The ARCADE Lab, BEST Lab, SF&I Lab, Smart Systems Lab, and VFRL are among the facilities supporting teaching and research. Work is underway to expand activities to Northern Virginia as part of Coalition for Smart Construction. Required Qualifications
Hold a doctoral degree in construction or a closely related discipline. Teaching Record:
Successful record in teaching courses in the building construction curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Research/Scholarly Output:
Strong record of publications and externally-funded research, with a nationally recognized research program. National/International Recognition:
