Tax Senior Manager – Financial Services Office – Fiduciary/Trust & Estate Tax Administration Services (FTEAS). Responsibilities

FTEAS provides fiduciary/court accounting services for trusts and estates serving banks, law firms, family offices, and individual and professional trustees nationwide. The Senior Manager is part of the leadership team and plays an integral role in overall strategy and success of the FTEAS business. Technical review of complex trust & estate fiduciary accountings; manage client relationships; contribute to business development; supervise, train, and develop staff; recruit; maximize operating efficiency; maintain profitability. Ensure compliance with EY processes and procedures including onboarding new clients and setting up new matters, compliance with independence, eDocs, and technology initiatives. Lead and develop teams to ensure accuracy and timely delivery of work products to clients. Provide estimates for new accounting work and prepare required documentation for new engagements; work with EY channels to establish client/engagement codes; vet matters for Independence and oversee compliance with eDocs. Build relationships with internal EY groups to assist with cross-selling FTEAS and other EY lines of business. Facilitate communications, share knowledge, offer guidance, and make decisions to meet engagement deliverables. Develop operational efficiencies to deliver timely, high-quality services and work products. Contribute to a flexible, stable, team-oriented culture that fosters staff development. Complete self-study courses to maintain and enhance knowledge of fiduciary accounting and software applications; meet Firm continuing education requirements. Review and monitor engagement profitability, staff efficiency, and workload to meet deliverables. Ensure projects are properly and timely billed and oversee follow-up with clients regarding bill collections.

Skills & Attributes for success

Decisions at Senior Manager level include reviewing accountings, interpreting trust documents, interpreting accounting concepts and state/local filing requirements, reviewing tax documents, and analyzing investment documents to meet engagement needs. Providing pricing estimates, following up on proposals, and monitoring engagements for profitability. Ensure compliance with EY practices and procedures and operating within EY guidelines. Use technical knowledge to review and provide final sign-off on accountings prior to client release. Strong technical fiduciary accounting skills; strong client relationship management; leadership and business development capabilities; accurate pricing and delivery of engagements.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related discipline CPA, EA, licensed Attorney, Professional Fiduciary or CTFA (Certified Trust and Fiduciary Advisor) certification Excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent technical fiduciary accounting skills Experience reviewing complex accountings and IRS Forms 706, 1041 and K-1s Understanding of complex investments, tax concepts, and trust structures Ability to review and interpret trust agreements and estate planning documents Ability to research state-specific principal and income acts and other relevant state laws Strong management and leadership skills; strong client interaction and business development skills Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, company systems, and fiduciary trust software Thorough understanding of fiduciary tax law and related accounting concepts

10+ years of fiduciary/court accounting experience at a bank, law firm, or CPA firm with proven staff/engagement management Experience with complex assets and large trusts and estates; family offices a plus Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving abilities

What We Offer You

Comprehensive compensation and benefits package; base salary ranges: $126,600–$289,000 nationwide; $151,900–$328,400 in NYC Metro, WA, and CA (excluding Sacramento); salaries depend on education, experience, knowledge, skills, and geography; Total Rewards includes medical/dental, pension and 401(k), and paid time off. Hybrid work model: most client-serving roles expected to work in person 40-60% of the time over a project/engagement.
