MORTGAGE LOAN UNDERWRITER SENIOR The Underwriter III evaluates credit risk against company standards to determine a borrower's ability to repay a residential mortgage. The Underwriter III analyzes complex financial and non-financial data to make decisions that achieve high-quality assets for the bank and meet borrower needs. The role includes handling LLCs and other complex borrower types. The Underwriter III works within established lending authorities and guidelines, escalating complex or unusual situations to the next authority level. The position also involves mentoring and training Underwriters I and II and performing second-level reviews. Responsibilities
Review loan packages to ensure completeness and verify that all supporting documents are included to make a credit decision per established policies Identify issues and recommend appropriate resolutions within policy SLAs Analyze financial capacity to repay including credit analysis, financial statement analysis, cash flow analysis, liquidity qualification and payment calculations Review stability of residency and employment and verify income per policy Identify exceptions to current policies and document reasonable conclusions mitigating identified risks Accurately set and clear conditions Interact with RLC and Processor throughout the loan life cycle, providing information and updates as required Update systems with pertinent information Render a decision within lending authority; if outside authority, submit a recommended decision for appropriate signing Originates client letters (Commitment, Counter Offer, Declination) and certifies final workbook to the Processor Ensure compliance with bank and regulatory guidelines and contribute to client satisfaction Promote teamwork and a positive working environment; collaborate and innovate to drive continuous improvement Provide guidance and support to RLC and Processor as required Utilize systems and tools to keep RLCs updated on loan status Communicate daily with business units and Processors to ensure requirements are understood and met Provide timely, complete, and accurate responses to inquiries; handle situations professionally and ethically Lead problem resolution for own loans and assist Underwriters I and II with resolutions Support quality and customer satisfaction goals of the bank Track and report production statistics; meet goals and SLAs; maintain data integrity Mentor and train Underwriters I and II; perform second-level reviews Perform other duties as assigned, including participation in projects and process improvement Minimum Qualifications
Minimum 7 years of experience as an Underwriter in a financial services or mortgage banking environment Minimum 7 years of experience underwriting jumbo and super jumbo loans to investor or organization guidelines Minimum 7 years of experience with state and federal lending regulations (e.g., ATR, RESPA, Reg B, Reg O, Reg Z, Fair Lending, etc.) Skills and Knowledge
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics or related discipline with 10+ years in a mortgage banking environment Familiarity with FNMA/FHLMC guidelines Computer literacy with Microsoft applications and mortgage software; experience with InterLink E3 or NetOxygen/Gallagher preferred Strong verbal and written communication skills Effective time management and ability to handle high daily loan volume Detail-oriented; team-oriented with collaborative mindset Knowledge of funding and loan documentation for complex cases such as LLCs, irrevocable trusts, and cooperatives Compensation
Starting base salary: $41.83 - $66.81 per hour. Exact compensation varies by skills, experience, and location. Eligible for bonus and/or commissions. Additional Remarks
