Job Summary
The Staff Accountant performs routine to moderately complex accounting tasks related to one or more accounting functions, supporting the maintenance of accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. This role contributes to tracking the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax obligations, and other related financial activities.
Responsibilities
Assist with the accounts payable cycle including expense coding, invoice review, payments, accruals, and reconciliations
Coordinate with Accounts Payable Supervisor on payment batches and 1099 filings
Analyze general ledger accounts and prepare journal entries and bank reconciliations
Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
Prepare financial reports including balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements
Reconcile payroll, cash disbursement, customer accounts, and bank deposits
Maintain and close monthly books and assist auditors during annual audits
File tax forms with applicable government agencies
Collaborate with software vendors to maintain and improve accounting systems
Provide financial analysis and reporting for budget vs. actual performance
Perform spreadsheet analyses and other administrative functions for the Senior Accountant
Other accounting and administrative tasks as assigned
Education/Qualifications/Experience
Bachelor of Science in Accounting or related field, or equivalent experience
Three years of related experience in an accounting environment (non-profit experience preferred)
Good understanding of accounting fundamentals and concepts
Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize in order to meet deadlines
Ability to problem solve and think both creatively and logically
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
Good communication skills, written and verbal, with the ability to clearly communicate to others
Ability to complete work in a timely, accurate and thorough manner requiring minimal oversight
Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to interact and collaborate with diverse groups of people
Applicants must have general knowledge of GAAP and be proficient with spreadsheets, word processing and accounting guidelines
Practicing Catholic preferred
