The Finance and Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing strategic financial guidance. The position will manage nonprofit financial management and reporting, grant management, donor compliance, accounting and compliance, budgeting and cost control, cash flow and bank relationships, leadership, and strategic planning. The position will supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll personnel. Location:
Charlotte, NC What You’ll Do
Financial Management and Reporting
Manage financial statements for the executive team, board members, donors, and stakeholders (balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements). Ensure transparency, accuracy, and timely financial tracking with restricted and unrestricted funds. Manage budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning by analyzing financial data to support decision-making.
Compliance and Audit
Ensure compliance with IRS 501(c)(3) regulations and accounting standards (GAAP for nonprofits and tax regulations). Manage audits (internal and external). Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
Budgeting and Cost Control
Oversee bank relationships and financial transactions. Optimize working capital to ensure sustainability and operation efficiency. Implement internal controls.
Grant and Fund Management
Track grant funding, donor contributions, and government funding. Ensure proper reporting and compliance with funder/donor restrictions. Monitor program budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
Leadership and Strategy
Advise senior management on financial strategies. Work with the executive leadership team to evaluate and establish internal financial controls. Lead and mentor accounting and finance teams. Assist in financial decision-making for business growth.
Strategic & Alternative Investment Responsibilities
Implement innovative financing strategies, including impact investing, program-related investments, and social impact bonds. Reserve and Endowment Management – Develop strategies to optimize PRN’s reserves and explore endowment-style approaches for long-term sustainability. Risk Management and Diversification – Integrate alternative investment principles to strengthen financial risk management and diversify funding streams. Capital Raising and Partnerships – Collaborate with leadership to identify partnerships with foundations, investors, and fintech platforms to secure alternative financing and unrestricted revenue. Business Ventures Oversight – Lead financial due diligence for PRN’s emerging for-profit initiatives and workforce development programs.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Five or more years of progressively responsible roles in accounting or finance. Nonprofit experience with fund accounting, grant management, or working within a nonprofit environment. Experience with financial management systems (e.g., Xero, Jirav, Zeffy, or similar). Ability to prepare and interpret financial statements, budgets, and forecasts. Strong ability to analyze financial data and translate it into actionable insights. Experience with developing, managing, and monitoring annual budgets and financial forecasts. Knowledge and experience in implementing robust internal controls. Demonstrates leadership by modeling PRN’s mission, values, philosophy, and guidance to team members. Demonstrates taking personal responsibility, being dependable, reliable, working as a team player, and utilizing personal determination skills. Demonstrates honesty, integrity, is ethical and approachable. Ability to interact effectively with the public, providers, and other stakeholders. Ability to manage time and complete tasks.
