Overview
This Director of Grants and Accounting reports directly to the President/CEO, is a key leadership team member, and is responsible for all aspects of fiscal operations, grants, nonprofit accounting, and financial reporting. The responsibilities include financial statements, reporting, budget development, forecasting, grants management and compliance, audit, and tax return oversight. This person works closely with senior leadership team members on the department/agency’s strategic goals. They also interface with funders, community leaders, and clients. The Director of Grants and Accounting must demonstrate cultural awareness, sensitivity, and a commitment to diversity that acknowledges and encourages contributions from all team members. The Director of Grants and Accounting is a self-starter, flexible, action-oriented, and goal-oriented individual in a fast-paced, team-oriented, collaborative environment. This position may interface with the Board of Directors at the President/CEO’s request. Core Responsibilities
Oversee the grants and accounting, including budgeting, financial forecasting, monthly reporting, cash flow, and the annual audit/990 return. Collaborate with the controller to prepare monthly financial statements, including grant/financial reports for the leadership team, program directors, and managers. Promote regulatory compliance and monitor internal controls, including maintaining and developing policies, procedures, and system changes to ensure correct application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and government grants accounting. Oversee the accuracy of all financial documents, reports, cash management, cash flow, month-end closing journal entries, and grants fiscal reporting. Develop and maintain relationships with bankers, funders, internal team, and external stakeholders. Collaborate with the leadership team and department directors to prepare and lead the budget process. Oversee the grants revenue and expenditures, including monitoring of the budgets. Serve as the primary liaison for the annual audit and Form 990. Collaborate with the CEO in the presentation of financial statements to the Board of Directors. Supervise the controller who oversees the accounting team. Identifies actual or potential financial problems and recommends appropriate actions and/or solutions. Reviews fiscal records to implement Drew CDC policy and regulations and communicates issues to the appropriate supervisor(s) or operating department personnel. Stays abreast of new and emerging technology and best practices related to fiscal services. Develops and recommends accounting forms and procedures. Assists in forecasting income, expenditures and ending balances of various funds. Participates in meetings and serves on designated committees inclusive of supporting strategic planning. Effectively engage and support historically minoritized groups by addressing issues of equity, improving culturally responsive, and trauma informed care service-oriented practices. Provides direct supervision, evaluation and discipline for the Finance Department. Participates in recruitment activities, as needed. Other duties as required. Knowledge
·Demonstrate knowledge and experience with federal, state, and local government grants funding. ·Comprehensive working knowledge of program planning, budgeting, administrative operations, and government grants management/accounting. ·Knowledge of program development, and/or other economic development work. ·Expertise in working within one or more of the following service areas: early childhood education, mental health, or financial assistance programs. ·Knowledge of nonprofit management best practices, effective delivery of quality programs and services, budgeting, grant/contract negotiation and management. ·Demonstrate experience of managing teams including professional development and mentorship. ·Demonstrate technical knowledge and skill in using Microsoft Office Products including but not limited to MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. ·Proficient with computers, and Microsoft Office. ·Strong organizational skills Abilities
·Work simultaneously on multiple tasks and projects. ·Use performance-related databases, and working knowledge of information technology, both existing and emerging. ·Demonstrate effective research, organizational, problem solving and communication skills. ·Ability to be flexible, multi-task, and work in fast-paced environment. ·Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities effectively. Minimum Qualifications
·A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, in accounting and two (2) or more years of experience as Director of Grants and Accounting or similar position. ·Two (2) or more years of nonprofit government grants management and accounting. ·An associate degree with four (4) years of experience as a Director of Grants and Accounting or equivalent position. Desired Qualifications
·Master’s degree in accounting or related field from an accredited institution. Physical Requirements
·Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. ·Must be able to lift to 20 pounds at a time. ·This position requires frequent hearing, reaching, talking, seeing, repetitive motions. ·This position requires regular keying/fingering. ·Sedentary work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. ·The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection of property.
