Counseling DSPS (Part-Time Pool) Ventura County Community College District Location: Districtwide (Ventura County CA) Job Type: Part-Time Faculty • Job Number: 2025-00530 Closing: Continuous We are accepting applications on an on-going basis for future consideration for part-time instructors in this discipline at any of our three colleges (Oxnard, Moorpark, and Ventura). Applications submitted to this pool will be kept on file for the Summer 2025, Fall 2025, and Spring 2026 semesters and may be considered if a vacancy becomes available within the academic year. What you’ll do Under the general supervision of a dean, a Counselor (Non-Contract/Temporary) provides comprehensive counseling, career guidance, and advisement services to students from diverse backgrounds for the purpose of developing and facilitating the attainment of their academic, vocational and personal objectives. In accordance with the provisions of Education Code sections 87482.5, Counselors (Non-Contract/Temporary) may be employed up to 67% of a full-time assignment.

Representative Duties
Provide comprehensive academic, personal and vocational counseling to students; assist students in developing their educational plans and survival skills; foster academic success to retain students; assist students in the selection of a course of study, major, or certificate program.
Refer students to appropriate support services, programs, resources, and other professionals; monitor academic progress; counsel students on academic probation.
Develop individual plans with students preparing to enter the labor market; identify skill training needs and opportunities for internship, job search, work experience/work-study and employment.
Counsel students regarding career choices, goal setting, and decision making; provide information on matriculation processes and program requirements at other colleges or universities.
Assist in the development of outreach activities to identify and recruit eligible students and facilitate enrollment.
Conduct orientation events to familiarize students with college programs and services, including application and registration, academic and grading standards, course procedures, and financial aid.
Maintain current records of counseling sessions; assist in compiling data and preparing reports related to program operations, activities, and progress.
Assist in the preparation of counseling-related publications and workshops for targeted populations.
Advocate for students with special needs and collaborate with instructors, counselors, and campus/community resources to support educational goals.
Assist in the development of programs focusing on access and retention for targeted populations.
Provide work direction to others.
Perform related duties as assigned.

= Essential Duties
Minimum Qualifications Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications for the discipline as approved by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors and defined in the Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges handbook.
The minimum qualifications for service as a community college counselor of students with disabilities shall be satisfied by meeting one of the following:
Master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling;
Master’s degree in counseling, guidance counseling, student personnel, clinical or counseling psychology, education counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, marriage, family and child counseling; OR a Bachelor’s degree in marriage and family therapy or in marriage, family and child counseling AND possession of a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) AND either fifteen or more semester units in upper division or graduate level coursework specifically related to people with disabilities, OR completion of six semester units, or equivalent, of graduate-level counseling practicum or counseling field work courses, in a postsecondary Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS) program, OR two years of related full-time experience in counseling for students with disabilities or related settings.
All coursework must be from an accredited college or university. If the degree on transcripts does not exactly match the minimum qualifications, applicants may submit the Supplemental Questionnaire for Equivalency for review by the Districtwide Equivalency Committee.
